leaking heater core.
o.k. guys. i noticed anti-freeze dripping under hood. It was coming from the heater core. Is this replaced from under the hood or is like the newer vehicles, and comes out from under the dash? It looks like a simple under hood fix, but didnt want to tear into it not knowing for sure. Thanks Guys. Later, Rich

Re: leaking heater core.
It is a pretty simple under the hood fix. I have changed a few, and you can squeak the heater box off with the hood hinge left on, but it's a bit easier if you remove the hood hinge before you pull the heater box.

Re: leaking heater core.
I just pulled mine last week. Be careful, there is a screw tab in the lower left hand corner (looking at the firewall) that I couldn't see and ended up breaking it off. Other than that it was easy...

Re: leaking heater core.
I have found the best way to replace the heater core is to remove the passenger front tire and inner fenderwell before starting the project, it make getting to all the fastners so much eaiser and the job goes much smoother. its very quick to remove the inner fenderwell and you can also clean up the battery box and other items that might need attention. Also make sure you get the heater core and heater box reseal kit before you start the project, I had to wait a week to get those in the mail and you will have it all apart and you might as well rebuild the box gaskets as its only a $23.00 kit. Good luck its about a two hour job in all.

Re: leaking heater core.
Changed mine 2 weeks ago,Advance auto,38.00. Not too bad a job, I did break off the bottom left tab though. No biggie I used the black RTV sealer all the way around, bolted back up and it works wonderfully. Nice HOT air for a change. Cleaned out enought leaves to fill the bed of the truck. Good Luck. Re: leaking heater core.
you can locate the PITA bolt, and then drill a hole in the fenderwell and then put a rubber plug in it. Thats the way they would access spark plugs on some of detroits *tightly packed* offerings.
