Who all has had chroming done?
 

So who all has had their original painted grill chromed? Is it worth it or is it more economical to buy a chrome reproduction? It looks to me like you can get 55-56 grills pretty reasonalbly, but the one year only 57s that I've seen are quite a bit more. And I'm curious about the quality.

I've never had anything chromed before, so I'm not sure how much it runs on average. I'll have to have my fender emblems redone regardless since no one seems to be repoping 3200 pieces. How much work would the chromer expect on my part? Stripping, knocking out dents, etc? What are we talking here.

Chrome is very hard to get a quote on......

I had my front bumper, grill and headlight surrounds done in Edmonton AB in 2003 for $800.

Four years later and it still looks great.

I'm always a fan of chrome plating OEM metal over buying new re-pops.

very good reading dude! pretty hard to beat a lifetime warranty on crome. i personally went through hell with a 55' pickup grille. there was this guy that was a regular at local swap meets (way before e-bay and repo parts) and at one had a grille ($400) allready redone and as i'm looking at it says" if their is anything you don't like show me and we will redo it" i'm thinking ok and see a couple bars with a few areas needing redone. tells me he will mail it to me in 3 weeks so 6 weeks go by and nothing with repeated calls and no response. finally i get a answer and he tells me "those parts were so bad they fell apart in the process" and i tell him "ship me the remains" basically calling him on his bs. so i have 90% of a grille and i'm pissed! he is 150 mile from me and i finally track him down through one of his local napa stores and as my luck would have it had burned one of the counter guys. on my next trip i stop and the napa store and meet the burned counter guy and see the crap job he had done and he knew a couple other guys so we pay him a surprised visit he tells us to leave or he's gonna call 911 no sooner did it pop out of his mouth but one one the guys says " if i'm going to jail your going to take an ass beating" being the sales person he was he quickly figured out the local guys knew how to find him and that worried him. end of my story got refund, kept grille and some 2 months later those grille bars showed up at my house in the same box i had sent them unopened! the best part is seeing people talking to him and showing them the pictures of the grille and to pass on the info he's a crook!

I go to Advanced Plating in Nashville, they are expensive but man are they good!
