FS 1958 283 and tranny

I have a 1958 283 with the original 2 barrel carb, with corvette valve covers (they are chipped on the side). Includes SM 420 4 speed transmission. I'm not sure what the heads are, I never pulled the valve covers - it was only in the truck for a few monthes until I pulled it. Motor ran pretty good when I pulled it out of my '67. $200.00
CORRECTION - I just looked at the block number and it's a block from somewhere between '61 and '64 - so I don't think it's a '58.

You are correct, Looks like it is a 61-64 283. If you want to sell just the valve covers, let me know.

Thanks, but I have someone interested in them already - I'm gonna pull one of the covers tomorrow and see what the heads came off of. I'll post a picture tomorrow.

Re: FS 1958 283 and tranny

This looks like an older engine than 1961. If you notice where the bolts are in the valve covers, they are not straight across the covers, but a little closer together on the upper side. I believe 1958 was the last year for this. I would say that at least the heads are 1958 or earlier.

I just checked the block #s. Its 61-64. Could be a mix of parts.

Re: FS 1958 283 and tranny

the heads may be from somthing older... they ARE the early style heads, so maybe from a 283 or 265

I'm interested in just the tranny.....Have you driven with it under power situations in all gears???

How much to 81082 if it checks out?

A............

Re: FS 1958 283 and tranny

Yeah, all the gears are fine, there seems to be a fair amount of slop in it, but it didn't pop out of any gears or make any strange noises. Boy, shipping will probably be more than it's worth - the thing is a boat anchor You're probably talking a couple hundred dollars but if you're interested I'll check it out for you.
