Re: flowmasters
40 series would be the traditional "flowmaster sound".
As far as the loudest, i'd guess the delta force single chambers... http://static.summitracing.com/globa...lo-9430109.jpg or the outlaw racing mufflers... http://static.summitracing.com/globa...lo-15440_w.jpg |
Re: flowmasters
I run the Super 40 with 3 inch exaust dumped under my bed. VERY NOTICABLE.

Re: flowmasters
The new super 44's sound pretty darn good!!!
Super 44 - Two Chamber Mufflers Flowmaster’s NEW Super 44™ muffler with its 4” x 9.75” x 13” all black finish case offers distinct advantages over our original 40 Series™ muffler. Using the technology seen in our larger Super 40™ mufflers, the Super 44™ delivers a rich deep tone, an improved flow path radius, optimum internal flow and sound control, all created with Flowmaster’s Delta Flow® technology. It is the most aggressive, deepest sounding, highest performing four inch case street muffler we’ve ever built! |
Re: flowmasters
I have the 40 series on mine turned down in front of the rearend loud with great sound ,but i have to admit at 40 mph it can have an annoying ressonance which lets me know I'm getting old

Re: flowmasters
"loudest & best sounding" dont always come in the same sentence! I ran a set of 40's , & didnt like them. My longhorn has Hooker comps, 2 1/2" pipe/H pipe, & tailpipes straight out the back(also 2 1/2), running through 50's flows. One of my neighbors has a 67 camaro BB 454, 2 1/2/ H pipe, Magnaflows, 2 1/4" tailpipes......& he likes the sound my 383 makes better:) The 50's are about as beligerent as the 40's, when you open the throttle, but are mellower(not so much interior resonance) while cruising......on a long road trip, you will love that. :crazy:L

Re: flowmasters
I'd steer away from the flowmasters personally, unless you just have to have that sound, thats up to you but if your looking for H.P. their name out performs them, and thats not opinion thats the truth.

Re: flowmasters
True, there are better performing mufflers out there that will give more HP/Torque compared to flowmasters. But not much more; maybe an extra few HP or lb/ft. Depends on your engine and how modified it is.
Don't get me wrong, I love flowmasters. But I am more than happy with the magnaflows I have on my '69. |
Re: flowmasters
I've got the 40 series on my 4.3 Blazer and I love the sound. Bumped my mpg also. However if I have the hatch open(hauling lumber or stuff)
There is a point between 35-45 mph where the resonance makes your ears ring. Sigh, I too am growing old. |

With you there [X2] on the sticky Spray Bomb. Exhaust systems are very personal and unique for each application they are being used for. One must take into consideration sound, appearence, budget, lowered, 4X4, stocker all comes into the design of what makes one exhaust system right for one person and wrong for another. Hard to answer this for anyone on a computer IMHO .... [Just my .02 cents worth.] esll. :) |
