Re: gauges
The bulbs are clear and the background they are shining on is a light green. Some guys pull the tin out and repaint it a high-gloss color of their choice. Some guys simply buy tinted bulbs and replace the clear ones in the back of the cluster. I've seen colored '194' bulbs in two-pack bubble packs at Wal*Mart.

Re: gauges
i was thinking of replacing mine but i read somewere it said the light reflected off the backing plate
does anyone know a good way to do a restore on a cluster?? |
Re: gauges
Take the inner tin out and paint the backside white but NOT a gloss white. You'll get more uniform lighting that way. You can also paint the other tin white or silver while you have it apart. You can buy all types of colored bulbs and LED bulbs in the 194 style on ebay.
