How to ID a blazer frame from a truck frame?
Can anyone offer any suggestions as to how to identify a 4x4 frame, blazer vs truck? I know the frame is shorter for a blazer but I need to be able to tell the difference from pictures.
I've tried to search build and other threads but looking at pics I can't see any identifying differences. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Scott |

If it's a '72 it will have rear frame horns similar to the front ones..69-71s weren't that way though..Easiest way to I.D. it..measure the wheel base, and frame length..then see if its a short 4wd,long 4wd,or a K/5 frame. With pics of the rear of the chassis we should be able to tell too.

Dustin, thank you, I appreciate all the help and info you have been giving me since I started this quest. Can u tell me if there are any differences in the body mounts? Perhaps they would give me a clue from the pictures I have.

If it is a truck frame that has been cut down some of the body mounts will probably be bolted on or welded on instead of rivited.

Re: How to ID a blazer frame from a truck frame?
jkade, thanks but my dilemma is just the reverse. I believe the frame to be a blazer frame but was advertised as a short bed truck frame. My intentions were to build a SWB so I'm trying to find a way to definitively answer whether or not I can in fact use it for a SWB truck without further mods to the frame. Unfortunately it's a "selling for a friend" deal so getting info is proving to be difficult.
BTW the mounts appear in the pics to be original, at least in the sense they are riveted. |

Re: How to ID a blazer frame from a truck frame?
Scott, after looking over the pics again,it looks like the rear cab mounts (which are truck mounts) are too close to the spring hangers for the back.I looked at my '71 Short K10 and the ones on your frame are way closer to them than mine..which leads me to believe it is a blazer frame.Didn't they remove some of the frame to make it shorter? Maybe that's where they did it..If that's the case,I think it's a lwb 4wd.Compared to my blazer, there is more space between cab mounts and spring hangers too.
What has me puzzeled is the back though. As much frame as there is behind the spring hangers,it makes it look like a lwb 4wd..don't know. |

Dustin, thanks again. I see what you mean. That's what I needed.
