I just did a six lug conversion on my 65. I used CPP's kit. I understand that you can use up through 1989 components and keep the stock a-arms. The later model parts have larger bearings, larger ball joints, heavier tie rod ends, and much stronger spindles. So you could use 1989 parts and buy 6 lug rotors from CPP for the late model spindles. (CPP has a toe adjuster sleeve that mates the heavy late model outer tie rod end to the stock inner.)
Here is a before and after pic. I did a 6 lug rear conversion also. Boy is it good to be able to stop.

If you use a CPP kit read their catalog very carefully to be sure you get the late model truck parts.

NF65, That link is for Classic Industries.

I use Classic Performance Products (CPP). They are a good company and manufacture many of their parts inhouse.

The link is http://www.classicperform.com/6092chevtrk.htm

The online catalog is a bit vague although they have a lot of good technical articles, instructions etc. They have a very good paper catalog so if you don't have it give them a call.

Another thing to think about, be sure your wheels you have will clear the calipers. Stock wheels do not clear!

Good point about the wheels PrerunnerRob. I run 1/4" spacers front and rear to make 15" chrome wheels clear.

If you are trying to stay within a budget, the 71-72 chevy c-10 has an entire crossmember setup that will unbolt, then bolt back into your truck. A-frames, bearings, etc. come out together. I believe it does require a shim on each side. I have dropped these units out before, and it is a fairly easy swap if you have more time than money. Jerry
