Have you made any mods to your engine (i.e new cam) components lately or did it just start happening? If you have then you might need a larger CFM rated carb, if you have not then read on.

The 1st thing I would do is replace your fuel filter. If you have the stock rochester carb I would change the filter in the carb and I would add a wicks in-line fuel filter and install it in addition to the original filter location. It is easy, quick and cheap.
If that did not help then I would take of your air cleaner off and get some B-12 or other carb cleaners and start your engine and clean out your barrels. Use the whole can and clean the hell out of it. Go on and get some new plugs because they will foul if you do this.

If that does not work then I would get a rebuild kit. Rochester kits are rather common and will be under or around 50 bucks.

Good Luck! ~ Shawn

What size gas line running from tank to carb. 4BBL v8 should be 3/8, if you have 5/16 and use the throttle hard it may starve for gas.

Make sure your float(s) are not sinking. They may be filling full of gas when you're going up hill. Are you running rich while going up the hill?

Some of those Q-jets have bowl fillers that keep the gas from sloshing around. Maybe you need those (if you have them) and new float(s)...
