Re: is using a propane heater inside a garage safe?
I used a propane heater in my garage... You shouldn't leave it unattended, make sure it never gets too close to flammable materials and you will want to make sure the building is well ventilated or open some doors for fresh air occaisonally. The propane heat will suck the oxygen out of the air and could cause you to get light-headed or, even worse, lose consciousness. To make a long story short, they're safe as long as you're careful.

Be careful, they suck up alot of oxygen. You might want to google it and look at the pros & cons. They heat great, but they do emit a bit of an odor.

i used them for many years without problems// the utmost care must be used in storing your cleaners paints and other explosive stuff and respect the heater a brain fart can cost you a garage or a life
you do have fully charged fire extinguishers in the garage?? i made an anti tipover stand for mine dont point it at the vehicles gastank is a good idea |
Re: is using a propane heater inside a garage safe?
I used to heat a cabin with a propane heater. I kept the flame right, blew out the burner each season before lighting the first time. Even though the cabin was leaky I cracked a window open for the fresh air. I was using a stationary propane tank with a copper line ran to a shut of valve in the cabin. My supplier requires the tank to be at least 15' from the building. Like the previous post stated move all flamables out of the garage. I still have some Deareborn propane heaters that I will be using in my shop, if I ever get my doors on that is.

Re: is using a propane heater inside a garage safe?
Think about your garage size and consider the amount of FREE AIR space that you have. I use a 35,000 BTU forced air propane heater in my garage, but I only run it for about 30 minutes and then shut it down and use a couple 500 watt quartz lights to keep the temp comfortable. My garage is 40' X 40' with 12' ceilings, so my free air space is very large. I also have alot of insulation, so the 30 minutes brings the temp up to about 65 degrees and it is comfortable for me.

Re: is using a propane heater inside a garage safe?
pick up a fire extinguisher even if you decide NOT to use the propane heater. it's just makes good sense to have one around, regardless.

Re: is using a propane heater inside a garage safe?
That's great advice about the fire extinguishers. It's a good idea to have them in the house, in the garage and one in the truck also... You never know.
