Just curious about an 87 SWB?
I bought mine a few months ago with a bent passenger fender and hood. Factory 350 with the FI and 700 R4. Blue on blue, nice factory rallys, and pretty clean. No rust (Im in Texas and it has been all of its life too) I paid 1700.00 for it, bought a clip for 250.00, and had it cut in and installed by the body shop for 1000.00. Im going back to totaly stock.I was just curious. How many of the 87' with this combo are still out there? Great site. Thanks.

How many are out there with what combo, the 350TB/700? Lots of them.

Re: Just curious about an 87 SWB?
in 87 GM went to all throttle body applications. Sooooooo.... all of them?

Re: Just curious about an 87 SWB?
The ones that I see now either have a 305 in them or a carburetor running things.

because no one wants fuel injection...

I like TBI...Not much for performance but pretty bulit proof..

Re: Just curious about an 87 SWB?
ill agree. theyre good. i just seem to avoid electrical/computer stuff that runs my vehicle.
For example, i DESPISE computer controlled brakes. i have seen too much stuff, and with my dad working on computers my entire life, too much stuff break with computers. I can just imagine driving down the highway and all of the sudden a malfunction happens and my brakes LOCK. or worse yet, fail to stop. computers can be finnicky and i dont trust them. I want to be able to see whats happening, for example when i push on my gas pedal, a cable pulls, releases, etc, etc. |
Re: Just curious about an 87 SWB?
TBI is a pretty simple basic setup form of electronic fuel control. I like it.... I like it alot. I've had nothing but carburetors before this truck..... nothing beats cold start reliability of the TBI in cold new england winters. Many times I was late to school due to carb/choke issues with other vehicles I had. I'll never go back to a carb. As far as performance, not much out there aftermarket for the tbi.... but its a great stock daily driver package.... and I like to keep things stock for the most part anyways.

If it is an 87 model as stated it came with TBI.
350's weren't available on 1/2T trucks from 81-86. |
Re: Just curious about an 87 SWB?
Yep not too rare as far as I know either.

If you mean all 1/2 tons then I have an '86 GMC 1/2ton 4x4 swb that says different. It was even sold in Cali to boot! Not trying to argue with you as I believe you know an awful lot about these trucks. I just have this truck that I am 99% certain was original when I bought it. |
Re: Just curious about an 87 SWB?
I meant 2WD and 4WD versions. I should have put the disclaimer that California is the only place the 350 was available in 1/2T's during that time, and this doesn't apply to non 48 state vehicles.. that being said..

Re: Just curious about an 87 SWB?
Really? That is strange. Seems Cali would have been the one place they wouldn't have sold the bigger engine.
