What's been happening?

Noticed it hasn't been too many new threads here lately. What have y'all been doing to your trucks?
I haven't done much to mine since put the hard top back on...sick of fooling with it after all those repairs. But gonna try to get a front bumper built over the Christmas holidays. It will have a receiver for the winch so can move it from front to back as needed.

Well it's not a secret anymore, but I have a message board that keeps me pretty
busy (I won't link it here out of respect for this board, my friends here who run it)
I also am at the time of year where I can't get anything done to mine cause I am
saving up and planning for all of the events I will attend in 2008. So at this very
moment they are both dust collectors. I need to sell the 4wd so the 2wd can go
off to the body shop and have cosmetic surgery. That's all for me, Who's next ???

I've just been too busy with the rest of my life - work, kids, home improvements, etc. It's too cold outside to work on my truck anyway...

ET tu bouncy  I don't have a place to work inside right now also. Even if I did, cash flow is a little slow since our plant has had 6 weeks of shut down in the last 2 months. That, plus my other hobby (goose hunting) is in full swing right now, so there is not a time to boot either.

6 week shut down? Why is that? Bad timing just before the holidays. What does the plant do?

Pretty common for the blazer section really, the projects come and go.
Sometimes it even gets a little boring but other times it's hard to keep up with all that's happening.
Stick around long enough and you'll see. ;)

As for the receiver install, why not just mount the winch and be done with it?
Can't imagine having to crawl out and install the winch in the receiver every time you need to use it.
Besides the fact that if you install it before you think your gonna need it, then you have this major piece of equipment sticking way out from your bumper just waiting to bash into something.
Gonna take away from the approach angle in a big way too.
How about storage when your not using it?

Not meaning to tear into your next mod but just throwing out what I've seen/read and discussed about those style set ups.

Re: What's been happening?

Mine has been sitting in the garage since the first frost hit here in Ohio (about a month ago) - antique plates won't let you drive it in the nasty weather...

I have been collecting parts to work on it when I can - and I have a few pending projects for it when the weather breaks...

Tach Cluster
New (used) dash harness (stock)
Replacement fuel sending unit - everything else was checked - so I hope it is the sending unit
New MP3/CD Radio for it

Other than that - too much time spent at work, holiday events, house projects, and other odds and ends to get to the Blazer...although I did just buy a C-20 to work on as well...did nothing to it yet - too much rain - :(

Happy Holidays everybody!

Re: What's been happening?

I hit "project overload" way to many projects.
So the blazer sits in the garage topless with no front clip.

Re: What's been happening?

My truck's up on jack stands right now. I'm selling parts and collecting parts for the axle and suspension makeover.

The selling part: 39.5" IROKs have sold, 20x10s are for sale, as is the 6 lug 10.5" 14 bolt.

The collecting part: 14FF being built with a disc conversion and is sitting on a set of stands next to the truck. 3/4 ton 10 bolt front is on it's way (waiting for the guy to pull it off his truck) soon so I can convert my D44 front to 8lug. 35" Procomp Extreme ATs on 16x10 rims are in the garage next to the truck...waiting for the axles. Just ordered a full set of Alcan springs, DIY4x shackle flip and new shackles all the way around. Last pieces to acquire are a set of Bilstein 5150s, but need to get the suspension wrapped up first to measure for them.

Don't won't to just permanently mount it cause I want the option of using it on the rear if needed. And we now have a car hauler with receiver on front so can use it for the trailer too = multi-task winch!
I don't sweat approach angle. Throttle, momentum & a good skid plate will take care of that. "Bashing into something" isn't a problem either, that why we own a torch & welder:metal:

I work at an engineered wood plant. So, with the housing slump, things are a little slower then projected and therefore we needed the down time to reduce inventory. I am actually glad to have the time off after working most of my holidays for the last few years of the housing boom. I do have some money set aside for the the Blazer and have been buying a few parts here and there for when I start my project in earnest.

Re: What's been happening?

I just closed on a house yesterday, been saving $$ for that for a while. Two car fully insulated garage will be pressed into service as the rebuild shop for the Blazer. Finally after 3 long years I have a place to work on it out of the weather and secure enough to leave apart for a while...

Re: What's been happening?

I moved into a new house in mid October. It didn't have a garage :( so the last few weeks have been dedicated to getting a concrete slab poured for a 3car. Finally got that done now its time for metal structure and roof. Oh yeah, had to have wisdom teeth removed day before yesterday. :sexy:

Dang, sounds awesome, can't wait to see it done.

Been waiting on better weather to do an engine swap. I really dont like to work on the Blazer when its cold. Those days are long gone. BTW it got down to 29 degrees last night. I'm also closing on a house next month so cash has been an issue as well. Oh well, one part at a time is all I can do. As long as I keep foward progress. Mario

My two Blazers are sitting in wait, as I am trying to finish up a truck I am building for toomanytoys. It is in the single and low double digits here lately so if I am not in the garage it is a little chilly!! I'll finish up the truck, then the 2wd Blazer gets its turn in the garage.

Re: What's been happening?

Well I wont get another day off untill after Christmas. Even the auto parts business has to play along with the Christmas retail season. As most of you know I 've been wheelin' nearly every weekend the last month up till now. Before that I yanked a motor/trans from a parts van, dressed them up and stuffed them into my 59 Belair project. But its put away for the winter. :smoke:
