High hump cover in 2wd??
 

Would a 1970 2wd Burb with a 402 and automatic have the high transmission tunnel cover like trucks did? Thanks for any help.

It should have the high hump because the high hump also went with Big block blazers with the turbo 400 trannies. If I remember correctly

It should have it,but I've had a couple of 69 big block trucks that had the low hump. Yours has it because if the 3 speed.

Damn, one more thing to check. my '72 350/350 Burb will have a low hump? So this means when I put the caddy 500/th400 in I need to change the hump?????????? If so can anyone direct me to one, and I'll have to post over at the WTB section.

No it is the low hump. The high hump bolts in.

On my cad install, I was able to do it with the low hump like yours. Mine is a tad closer than i would like it, but i have crap cab mounts too though. You might want to locate a high hump piece, and have it on hand. If you need it, use it, if you end up being OK, then you can resell it.
My bellhousing is less than 1/2 inch fromt he pinchweld on the bottom side of the hump. I already have a bolt in piece... I just need to get around to it.

Andy did you have any problem with heat radiating through? I'll be pulling the trailer so I guess this is a moot point. the tranny will be warm.

Al... I have been amazed at the heat coming up through the floor on the truck. I used my infared therrmometer last summer and my floor board was like 175 degrees or so.
However, I had no insulation... just the stupid black rubber mat.

I WAS WRONG!!! I had myself convinced for some reason that I had a low hump floor but I looked again at IAFF2407's pic and went out to look at mine: Definitely a high hump! So, it looks like the theory may hold up that all 2wd BBC Burbs came with the high hump.

Edit: Glad this epiphany came to pass before I ordered carpet :eek:

there's been a few noted on these pages that had a low when they *should* have a high hump.
Like my old GMC short/fleet, 305 V-6 and a TH400 ... high hump, I've seen 2 others like it, and seems no one else on here has ever seen any like that. (then again V-6 in a half ton 2 wheel drive wasn't too common)

A standard column shift BB would have a small hump.

i think all factory bb trucks had high humps, as also did all trucks with standard 4 speeds....if i'm not mistaken, the big truck humps(c-50?) will fit also

i just saw this topic pop into the "recent post" window, so i thought i'd stop in.

when i dropped the LS1 + T56 into my truck, the low hump was too short to use. i ended up having to cut it out and add a high hump.

process used: i bought a high hump and placed it on the floor. i used spraypaint to shoot/mark where the bolt holes should be (as you can see zooming in on the first photo).

if i would have been smart, i would have nicely drew a line 1/2" inside the pattern of the bolt holes and gotten a jigsaw with a fine tooth metal blade and cut it out along the line. instead, i was a stupidass and i tried using a nibbler, then a sawzall, which are both far from being a precision tool.

you will probably need to re-seal the body seam after (vibrations will knock some out, and I would suggest re-spot welding the end of the floor seam and rounging it off.

currently, nobody makes replacement nut-strips which would allow you to bolt the high hump to your floor, but ... I haven't come to address this issue yet. I will probably just use an industrial clip-on nut, something similar to what we use in our server racks at work. get creative.

anyway, just trying to show you pretty exactly what another guy has done (me :D) and try and help you learn from my mistakes (which are many!!! :D:D)

PS - as you can see, you can probably just cut along the outer edge of the little bead rolled around the short hump and it would make a perfect hole for you.

shifty, they make nutserts... call NAPA, perferably one that deals in tractor and truck stuff. They should be able to hook you up. Once you get your hands on one, you'll be amazed at how handy they are.

The problem I have found with larger nutsert sizes is that past 1/4 inch the tool to install the larger ranges get expensive, making it an unattractive solution, even though they are as convenient as hell and nutserts are cheap.

I did find a nice website that sells single size nutsert tools in the under $30 range for SAE sizes, including the 3/8 size you will need for the floor hump. I have not done my floor hump yet so I cant comment on how well it works, but I did do my door mirrors and it worked awsome. I just thought I would share.
