Chroming
I have a 65' C10, short step. Pretty good shape, I'm still trying to get pics to post. My question is, my Wife bought me a nice chrome rear bumper, premium LMC, very nice piece. Anyway, my front bumper is painted black, it's in real good shape too, but I would like a chrome one. I don't know any chroming shops around, Northwest Indiana area, and would it be cost effective (LMC $190.00) or should I just buy the front bumper from LMS. If I do that, I'll sell this one, but seems like a waste. Any advice would be helpful, thanks in advance.

Re: Chroming
I dont know about your area, but out here in Phoenix I have not heard of people being happy with chrome shop results.....that goes for Harley peeps and truk. My buddy in San Jose, Ca says the same thing. I dont know whaat the deal is but It mite be less hassle to buy one. Maybe some on this site knows a good shop. good luck

Re: Chroming
If I were you I'd just but the new one. If you find a shop to do it you'll end up paying more for it. Because of environmental issues there just isn't a lot of shops that do hard chrome work anymore.
Just my thoughts. Tim |
Re: Chroming
even if you could find a chroming shop it would be hard to get the bumper as perfect as lmc does, and it might be a little pricey
you might try and look on www.ebay.com they have lots of parts for our trucks good luck bub |
Re: Chroming
There's a chrome shop in Nashville Tenn that I have sent parts down from my chevelles-including 4 bumpers. They are outstanding with life time warr. Can't remember the name though. Go to team chevelle website and do a search. The cost wasn't to bad-but the shipping will hit you.

Re: Chroming
You can buy a new bumper with the triple plating for about half of what you will pay for a good rechrome. Mass production in a foreign country is a lot cheaper than the labor involved to strip, smooth & straighten your bumper.
And if the metal work under the chrome isn't perfect, it shows through the chrome plate. |
Re: Chroming
We still have some NOS oem bumpers for various vehicles and the chroming on the repops are actually better with less pits. The weight of the bumper is more but the chrome is not as nice. Our Chevy truck bumpers are the from the same MFG. as LMC premium bumpers and we sell the for alot less than they do. Same warranty everthing. We do not have many problems getting good rechroming, just the cost is high.

Re: Chroming
Lots of good input here. I appreciate it. I just hated to waste the good bumper, but your right. I had a close look at the bumper and there is small pitting at the top edge, it would probably show through.
Thanks again guys, I owe everyone some pics. |
