Best place to buy window weatherstrip
The next project I'd like to tackle on my 87 r10, are the window door seals. I'm not going to mess with the vent seals, they are fine, but the window channel weatherstrip and anti-rattle stripping are hard and dry-rotted. Also, while I tackle the job, I think I will replace my passenger side window motor, as it is extremely slow. Besides LMC, any other good places to buy new rubber? Any tips on installing the weatherstripping and new motor?

I bought my weatherstrip for the back door of my '89 (old body style)crew cab from the GM dealer. I don't remember the price,...but it wasn't too bad.

Re: Best place to buy window weatherstrip
Do you mean the felt channel that the windows travel up and down in or the wipers on the face of the glass inside and out?
The felt that the glass rides on up and down requires you to have the door trim panels off, at least for the 1977. You need to unbolt the window guide on the door handle side so you can move the glass out of the channels to tuck the new felts in. They hook at the top with a little clip up where the vent window meets it and the other piece snaps in all the way around back down the opposite side. Once you have it in place, you rebolt the window guide in. Be sure to check the operation of the window till you feel you have them in correct and centered. You can make a little tool out of some 1/4 inch plywood, rounded over and sanded a bit, to act as a "ram" to get the felts way in there where they belong. But if you are also replacing the window wipers, do this before getting things bolted back. Might need some wiggle room. I bought my felts and wipers from LMC. I don't know of any better unless you can find GM from the Chevy dealer. Worth a try. They DO have some parts for the older trucks and since yours is newer then mine, they MAY still be available. Give them a try. I have an inside wiper set I am not using since the new door panels come with their own. If they interchange, you can have them. LBJ |

Try the dealer fist... but if money isn't an option, I've heard that Steele Rubber Products sells great quality seals. http://166.82.96.3/homeframes.html
