can just the rad. and core support be removed instead of whole front clip when pulling eng.and trans.together any help 1984 sub. and 1984 short bed 1/2 ton

I personally just pull the motor and tranny and leave the core support and that other stuff alone. I see the advantage, BUT I just don't want to take the extra time and deal with it. I can get a motor out in short order and still not hit anything (SO FAR)

you put the truck on ramps or jack it and support it. drop the radiator and remove the tranny support and you dont need to take out anything else to pull a motor and trans together ( except to disconnect the motor and ac and all the other usual stuff

Dude: Listen to Rusty. you don't have to pull the support, nor do you want to. It's to easy to hurt little stuff like the bumper filler ect and it will take forever to find all the bolts and access them, not to mention the core support body mounts. Pull the hood off,remove the radiator take the cross member out, drop the exhaust as low as you can get it and if it has 4WD and you take the water pump off, you can pull everything in one shot, engine, trans & transfer case. jim

Yes but you will need to at least loosen one fender to get the radiator support out. Don't forget the condensor too. The bolts for the radiator support should be inspected. I had to replace both on my truck. The bolts were nearly rusted through!!! The core support does not drain where the bolts are located.

It would be easier to pull the whole clip off than to just remove the core support. Trust me, I pulled one from a '73 in a wrecking yard. Luckily, it had no engine and the grille and front bumper was gone. Chevy made sure that the core support was the main structural member of the front group, because there's LOTS of bolts holding it on, and some are in very difficult places.

i have both trucks waiting for the swap just looking for fastest way i am taking a 406 from 84 swb and putting it in 84 burb hope i am not wasting motor on the burb

i would t hink its fastest to not remove anything but what you have to and you dont have to remove the nose. the time you spend removing the support or the nose would be better spent jacking and easing the motor / trans assembly out.. I did leave taking off the hood which was pointed out by James MC Clure,
Another thing is if the trucks have air conditioning, to remove the nose means you hav to remove the refrigerant and then vacuum the system and install new refrigerant. This can be a pain the butt, particularly if you cant do it yourself whereas you can usually just unbolt the air compressor and lay it to the side or wire it with bailing wire out of the way.
I didnt say but you also have to support the tranny after you remove the trans support . I wind up putting a floor jack under it and lowering it so it doesnt slam into the floor
Ive done over the years a dozen or so of these kind of swaps, usually with an assistant , and the way ive described is how ive done all of them
