metal trim resto
I'd like to restore my grill and trim pieces. Does anyone know what type of metal it is. Has anyone done this and had success? I'd really like to do it myself. Any tips would help.

000 steel wool, can pick it up at the hardware store or walmart for $3or $4 a bag, no polish just elbow grease and you are set, i didnt think it would work at all, but for $4 its worth a shot, works fairly easy too

Re: metal trim resto
Thanks for the info. What kind of shape was your trim in before you started? Does anyone know what kind of metal chevy used in the 72 trim/grill. All the sites list different techniques for different metal.

Re: metal trim resto
Your grille is not actually chrome but anodized. Thats what you are burning though. Aluminum can be anodized with a clear finish. It can be chromed also but factory grilles weren't . You can learn to do it yourself. We have the equipment to do it but not large enough to do a grill. It takes a larger tank. Check into Caswells or some of the anodizing forums to look into the process. It cost us llike a $1000.00 to set up a small system.
