What happened...

to an old truck you had and you wrecked it was why you don't have it anymore...

I saw a couple a people who had close calls in their classic chevy and wondered who else had also. My truck didn't fail me and I'm still here, so I got another one (my 78). Just wondered who else had close calls but their chevy held true and kept em from being dead.

I wrecked mine in 7-2007 going 60mph trying to go around some jackass who waited for me to be like 200 ft away and decided to pull out ointo the highway and go like 10mph... And then I went backwards off a 10 foot drop and rolled it, into a tree nursery, and they didn't even stop to help. Next time I'm gonna plow right into whoever does that crap...

Re: What happened...

Hmmm -- in 1997, i fell asleep in my cherry '84 Silverado with the cruise control on, as i drifted off the shoulder of I-35, the truck sensed the drop in speed and kicked in the tranny kickdown.

I woke up right before i jumped a large culvert and the wild ride began. (no seatbelt) On impact, the rearend housing tubes split from the carrier and one of the front A-arms folded in on itself.

I guess the good Lord occasionally shines his good graces upon the ignorant, because i was able to jog 3 miles back to a pay phone and call my mom. The police were searching the surrounding woods the next morning for a body because the truck looked so bad.

All i was out was the $4000 purchase price of the truck, as i carried liability insurance only on it ---- but it could have been much worse

Every one is entitled to their opinion.
But if I was given a choice to be in my 1986 or my 2006 in an accident that caused that kind of damage, I would take my 2006 any day.

There are all kinds of safety/crash tests they have to pass before they can be sold that they just didn't get subjected to back in the day.

I wasn't driving this when it happened; I bought it for parts this way.
He said he either swerved to miss a deer or fell asleep. He couldn't remember?

I agree with ya there -- i would much rather be in my new truck than an old classic if i knew i was going to wreck --------- (actually if i ever knew, i would just stay home)

Much stronger, heavier frames, seating position further from the windshield, airbags - etc etc

Heres my '85 Stepper, I wrecked it in Jan of '87 on my way to work @ 5am i hit a parked car in the middle of I-95.

Some stupid female left it there with out any emergency lights on cuz it quit running and she told the police there were too many cars and she couldn't pull it off the interstate but she was able to park it and get out and walk across 4 lanes?????

Anyway after i got out of the Hospital from 12Hr. of srugery on my busted up nose.

I promptly ordered my '87 Stepper and took delivery of it in June of '87.

Here's the pic's.

I hit someone with my 84 but I already had my tires locked up when I hit them. I put a good sized dent in the back door and bumper of their van but there wasnt a scratch on my bumper

The first truck I ever owned in 1988 I lost control of in a turn during the rain and spun 00 degrees and centered a telephone pole spun another 90 degrees and flipped up on a curb.

I think I sold the truck to a buddy for $900-1000 (paid $1700) and he used the cab and stepside bed on a 4x4 he was building. I kept the motor/transmission.
