Help identifying truck
 

I don't know what year this is...the seller doesn't either. He said his brother gave it to him and he just wants to sell it. It doesn't have an engine, but the local engine shop has a 292 they are going to give me for free. Will that bolt up with little trouble? I was just curious if anyone could give me some details about this truck from looking at the pictures...what type of rear, transmission (if you can tell) well, whatever really. All I know is that it's a C-60 with no engine and the guy wants $500 for it. I'm going to pick it up this Tuesday regardless because I think it's a really good deal. What do you think?

If you need a truck that big it may be a good deal. Looks like some huge bondo cracks in the drivers door. Is the rest of the truck full of bondo? The tires look very worn. I can't imagine those will be cheap to replace.
If his brother gave it to him, whatever you give him is gravy. If you really want it, offer him $250 cash.

62 - 66... can't tell any more without a VIN or grill shot.
Is there no title for it, or is that a state where you don't need a title.

since it doesn't have the dogleg front glass, i'm gonna go with like...'64-'66. in that era.

a 292 should bolt right up, if i'm not mistaken the 235/261 series went out a couple years before then.

Yeah...you need a title here in NM. The guy has it too. I was going to get a picture of the vin tonight when I went to go see it again, but it was too dark. I included a shot of the grill...forgot to put it in my first post.

Turn it into a nice roll back wrecker. But in my opinion I would finish your short first. Unless you have plenty of room to store it.

The fender badge tells the year and I`m not clear.I believe it was`65 when the badge was down on the fender with 64/66 on the cowl.

I'd be cautious. The fact that somebody Took the engine out,and took the bed/any hydrallics off of the truck and then gave it away is more than a subtle hint that there may be major and expensive problems throughout.
I'd guess '63 since I had one and it looked about the same.

The grill looks just like mine which is a '66. Mine has a 292, 4-speed, 2-speed electric shift rear diff. Single MC with vacume booster under the cab.

It's a '66. The '64's had a different emblem on the side of the fender, that had a bowtie and the number series above it. The '65's had a rectangular emblem on the cowl pieces, between the door and the edge of the hood. The '66's had a rectangular emblem on the fender. You are looking at a '66.

It will definitely take some work to get it running again, but that's o.k. The po took the dump off and sold it to the sellers brother, his brother took the 409 out and gave it to him. That's the only reason he bought it...it's been sitting ever since.

The seller couldn't find the title for it so I was thinking I would help him get a replacement title for it. I've searched here, but didn't find any info on where the vin # is...the last time I was over there I looked everywhere, but the only thing I found was a riveted plate on the drivers side and it just had the GVW and some other stuff on it. The cab has been re-painted.

I appreciated all of the help so far...it shouldn't be too much longer till it's mine:metal:

:lol:sounds good, but neither of them run so...yeah.

I got the vin# and went to the C-60 forum posted above there is a decoder there, but everything in the vin doesn't match up.

Vin# C6336Z182721 (It was riveted on the top drivers inside door jamb)

I would say that it is Convensional 1966 2 ton Cab and Chasis from Freemont.
Even if that's wrong it really doesn't matter,it is what it is and the VIN really doesn't tell you that much anyway.

well...it's mine. Got a title for it with no problem and it has a new resting place for now. Here's the Ford tow truck about to hook up to it. I asked for a Chevy out of respect for the old truck, but they didn't care :waah:

Congrats!!It could be a very nice truck that just needs a motor and bed.It`s not uncommonn for truck bodies (bed) to be moved to new trucks.
I bought a`65 C50 with low miles for $500 because that`s what the dealer allowed for the trade-in.They had no interest in it.It was formerly a horse van used twice a year to take the horses to upstate NY where the owners had a summer home.It was rustfree,had newer-style non-split rims and newish Goodyears,newish Goodwrench 350,perfect interior...beautiful.The van body was clean enough to put on a new`98 Chevy 6500.The owners must have washed it (manure) out after each trip and kept it indoors.
I could see someone buying it for $500 just for the motor,then unloading the rest.

Well...the truck is in it's new resting place. My focus is my 69' short/step at the moment, but I have a question on this. A local engine shop has a 292 there that they were just going to get rid of, but I told them I wanted it. I'm going to put that engine in my 69 and pull the engine & transmission out that are in there now and put them in this one. I know some of these medium duty trucks had 292's in them, but what about the trans? I know it's a 4-speed with a granny gear. I don't know what kind specifically though. I would like to put a 5-speed in my 69 so it's a little better on the highway.

Looking at the shift knob it looks like you have a New Process 5-speed trans. 1st gear is a waaay low 7:00 to 1 ratio and 5th is 1:00 to 1.
