Weight reduction
Ok.. I need to put my 63 truck on a diet.. Last time I weighed it it was 3,840 with me in it and full tank of gas. It was 2,260 in the front and 1,580 in the rear. I have since moved the batterey to the rear and last night I ordered up rear draglites (couldn't afford the fronts right now). The front tire is a 215/75/15 on a 7" steel wheel.
Excluding the wheels/tires, front crossmember and glass body panels, where is there weight to shave in this thing? Stuff I can do on the cheap or free for now. I do have a vega manual steering box I think I am going to swap in over my power box. That should save a few ponds. Also I was thinking about converting to a dual resavor manual drake from my boosted brake set up. Motor is a Alum LS1 with a heavy 4L80E trans. I street drive it all the time so having the electric O/D is very nice. Thanks in advance. |
Re: Weight reduction
well mine weighs around 3400(+-) with me in it. But I have a tube rear half with only bedsides and a mustangII tube frame front clip.

Re: Weight reduction
remove heater, heater box, make a light weight core support, small aluminum radiator! some people do the roll pan on the front but I think they are butt ugly

Re: Weight reduction
+1 on the no roll pan bump, not a fan of em either.then again im just to cheap to buy a bumper.my truck never had one

Re: Weight reduction
I dont care for the front rollpan either... I have seen a fiberglass bumper somewhere ...... but i like the crome not painted

Re: Weight reduction
I am going to ba making a sheetmetal bumper vs a roll pan. Right now though it's got no bumper.
