A real stupid question

I want to get my cigarette lighter to work so I can charge my cell phone. There is no wiring going to it. All I have is the empty female receptacle (see pictures). The replacement lighter assemblies that I see in the catalogs include the receptacle. Do I need a complete kit or can I just hook up power to the tip in the back and buy a universal element???

This is what I used. 1 wire to grond and 1 wire to the fuse box.

Yea I see the treads on the back. But I still don't see how the whole assembly is attached to the face of the dash.

Look at poorboy's last pic. See the part with the 3 vertical lines? Hold onto the threads and turn the part with the vertical lines counterclockwise. The outer sleave (very thin) is what goes up against the hole in the dash to hold it in place.

Re: A real stupid question

What Poorboy has displayed in his pic is a late model aftermarket element with -+ spades that would be used with a "Plastic" dash. The reason your original only has one terminal is because the fixture is attached to your dash "Metal" and that is what is making the ground. All you need to do is provide a power wire from the fuse block. A assembly manual is a very important asset in working on these old trucks. It will provide wiring diagrams. If you go to the wrecking yard you can find the correct terminal to fit your original fixture on most any 60'-70' GM vehicle. Good Luck

Thanks guys I got it out. I've got the shop manual but all it had was the wiring diagram. It didn't have anything on assembly.
I didn't realize there was an assembly manual. I guess that will have to be my next purchase. Thanks again guys.
