please help guys!!!
with the help of a another member here at our wonderful site, I found a split 4 barrel intake manifold for my 250 Inline which will allow me to put a 4 barrel carb on it. Will this increase my horsepower or torque any? I need to know if it is worth putting so I can tell the guy that I want it.

Re: please help guys!!!
remember , too much carb is bad. you need to figure out your displacement, and figure out what your optimal CFM would be. then if they make a 4 barrel in that size.
then you would obviously have to tune it to your application. |
Re: please help guys!!!
a 4 barrel intake, coupled with a better flowing exhaust, such as a split manifold or headers, will improve horsepower, yes.
These 6's had a hard time breathing, with a one barrel carb and a single 2 inch exhaust, let alone the port design. as far as a carb, idealy a 390 Holley would work great on a 250, but a 500 cfm carb works well too, it all depends on tuning. if you haven't, jump over to ww.inliners.org and see if you can find some more info. they're dedicated to 6's,a nd know there stuff. just my take. -Sam. |
Re: please help guys!!!
I will be putting a Holley 390 carb on e bay soon..

The cheapest and upgrade with the most gain seemed to be converting to electronic ignition. But a 390 Holley, offy intake and headers brought it to life. This is a 292, but I'm sure it will do the same with a 250.

Re: please help guys!!!
Hi Truckn,
My 77 has a 250, and I'm using the Offy manifold. The Clifford manifold is really designed for an engine with head work and more than stock cam. The runners are pretty large. I think what really helped was the exhaust, though. The stock manifold must be pretty terrible. I used Stovebolt's cast iron manifolds (not full headers, but way better than stock). As for carb, most of the guys on inliners used the Holley 390. The 500s could be used, but you'd pretty much be running on the primaries. I used a 2bbl 350, and it seems to flow the right amount. By the way, that's a great looking engine baddawg! 292 with an SM420; that should just about be bulletproof. |

I am running a 2bbl holley on my cliford manifold , with split headers and pertronix electronic ignition runs nice |
Re: please help guys!!!
You could probably get a Holley Econo-miser for next to nothing and they are about 400cfm. The small ports would be great for that motor.

Let me know too! I have a fresh 250 for the 65. I've rounded up a set of long tube headers and a Clifford 4bbl intake. I picked up a Holley 2bbl with a rebuild kit on the HAMB, but I haven't built it yet. That's what I was going to run for now, but those Holley 390's seem to be the favorite-the way to go. :ito::chevy: |

well this sucks, someone bought the dam thing out from underneath me before I could get it. Now I don't know what I'm gonna do!!!

Re: please help guys!!!
I hate it when that happens:whine:
When you do find another one, don't forget to upgrade your ignition too. Either HEI, or at least a Pertronix's unit. Small 4bbl plus headers plus HEI really wakes the 250 and 292 up! |
