Wing window glass removal

How anyone attempted this yet? It looks like it may be glued in there. I checked the FAQ's, but didn't see anything

How about you just replace it? (whole unit/wing window)
Might be easier.

Edit:
Should of mentioned I have a couple I can send you is what I meant.

I am doing mine right now with all new glass from LMC and most people say the new "units" dont fit real well but let me tell you the rebuild kits are not that great ether. Next time I might try the UNIT way and see how that is. Also I ordered new vent glass and door glass only to find they only make LH side's and sell them as sets. All this means is the Safty glass etching is on the inside on the LH and on the out side of the glass on the RH side. I called LMC to complain that they sent me 2 LH glasses and they said nope! that is what you get period!!! I was pissed with their customer service and the way I was treated will never order thru them agian.

Sorry off rant, since I was replacing mine with new glass I just set it over a trash can and beat the glass until it broke (not and easy task with out my spring loaded center punch) then cleaned out the rubber and the chanel and started over again. I have been told to use clean motor oil for setting the new glass into the rubber.

Glad I gave you a chance to get up on your soap box, I wouldn't want to be the one to cross you:lol: LMC gets flamed again:devil::lol::lol:

So, if I understand you correctly, pressure is the only thing that holds the glass in to the channel?

They actually make an auto glass removal tool for that, but its probably not cheap. Its kind of a glass installer tool only.Originally the glass was held in with a rubber-clothlike material and when you replace them you just kind of drive it in with a rubber mallet. Alot of installers now days just glue them in with urethane.A local glass shop could probably hook you up for a reasonable price.I like to do stuff myself,so you dont have to fix someones mistake.Good luck.

Put mine in a vise between two soft pieces of pine. Used a screwdriver and a hammer to gently force the frame from around the firmly held glass. It worked. A miracle I'm still not picking up the pieces!

the glass is really hard usually glass will break if you through the broken piece of a sparkplug or porsillin pieces didnt break at all.

Re: Wing window glass removal

Breaking tempered glass is easy if you strike it on the edge with a hammer.

Re: Wing window glass removal

Just removed clear glass from a pair of vents and replaced with tinted.I clamped the glass in a rubber padded vise and smacked the frame of the glass gently with a block of wood and hammer.I had four vents to remove glass from.Every one popped right loose from the frame.Went to local glass shop and got the correct rubber packing.Put the rubber around the edge of the glass first and push into place.Flip the vent over and put the edge of glass on a small board.Use a deadblow hammer or rubber mallet and tap the frame on,trim the excess. Its really not to bad and you dont have to break anything.

Re: Wing window glass removal

Your vent windows are held in with a product called "Everseal". As an Autoglass Installer for 18 years now I would recommend just run it over to a local glass shop and have one of their guys put it in for you. In my shop I wouldn't charge you for that. One of those courtesy things.Everseal comes in several different sizes,(thickness) it is important to choose the right size. If you glue, either urethane or silicone, that really messes up any future installs you might have to do.

Shame I don't live in Alaska:lol:, but that sounds like some sage advise coming from one with experience. I tend to follow those, I'll contact the local shop. This place rocks for advise...J.

BTW, how much snow is on the ground up there rite now

Not too much snow right now. Only about 10 inches on the ground. Overall snowfall is in the 40 inch area. The temps are terribly cold. 3 weeks of below zero temps has taken my starter and the fuseable links on my 84 6.5 Banks turbo powered diesel suburban. I ordered another one from an outfit in KY. DBElectrical.

. I have dealt with these people several times over the years and have not been disappointed. Pleasure to chat with you.

Re: Wing window glass removal

Took mine out with a flat-headed screwdriver and patience. Ordered new from LMC and I am seriously hoping it comes as a RH and a LH...will look like $#@! otherwise. Can't believe they'd sell it like that. Will take to my local glss guy to install so it's done right. CI know they don't/can't polish tempered glass...but do you think they can remove the "etching" from the vent glass/

Thanks
