Many Miles Question
Somehow, I lost my bearings and posted this question in another forum.......
Hey all, thanks for all the assistance on my earlier post....the fuel pump info on a 96 Chevy Blazer 4X4. The truck is working fine now. I do have a few more questions though. My Blazer has over 100,000 miles. I see all the commercials for this kind of additive and that kind of additive, is there any special engine treatment that I SHOULD be using? Is there any special Motor Oil that I should use for a 4X4 vehicle with that many miles? I only use the 4WD in the winter though. What about fuel additives? I greatly appreciate the help. My original motor had over 100,000 miles on it and no one recommended anything particular to me. I'd say just keep changing the oil every 3,000 miles and keep up with the tune-ups and you'll be fine! :)
Whenever my bf sees a commercial for that crap he just laughs and says it's BS. lol |
Thanks.

oil additives, I don't use any, I run Castrol syntec 10w40 seem to have the best luck with, no leaks, oil pressure is still good, and the funny noises are at a minimal. I f you want to try one, look into "Restore" comes in a silver can. I have seen some good results with this, but if your truck isn't smoking I wouldn't worry try it, believe it would be a waste. As for fuel additives, I usually run a can of Chevron fuel system cleaner with every oil change, as preventative maint. Also have used Berryman's B-12 when I'm being cheap.
If ya just hit a 100k don;t forget to change the transfer case oil, and the powersteering fluid, (sounds funny, but my steering actually got better with the fresh fluid) I have about 104k on my 97 Yukon 4x4. and all still runs strong! |
dont need no stinking additive
my 96 3/4 350 vortc chevy had 332,498 miles before it shot a connecting rod out (destroyed the whole bottom end) but it ran tip top to the verry end, i ran a little thicker oil and all in it like 20/50 i think it was but i dont think u need no additive just like they said keep the oil fresh watch those 3000miles they creep up on Ya!
