Need a little help!
Ok folks , I ned a little help. I want to switch over the front drum brakes on my burb to disc brakes. My burb is a 2wd 6 lug wheel patern and I want to keep the 6 lugs. What are my best options and how is it done? I want to do this in the driveway and not take it to a shop. Can anyone who has done this before give me some tips or a basic walk thru. What parts do I need to steal from a 71 or 72 model , or will other model parts work???? Any help will be great!!! Thanks in advance!!!!!

Re: Need a little help!
BEACON6,... you will need to do the basic 5-lug swap,... EXCEPT you will be using aftermarket 6-lug rotors. ECE or CCP sells them. You can use all 73-87 stuff to keep the parts cheaper or you can use 71-72 stuff. The rotor is the key to keeping the 6-lug. If you don't want to chase all over town for parts, do the kit from a reputable company. A parts truck is another way to keep it cheap. Are you using stock spindles or dropped spindles? Search around in the "suspension" section. This has been asked many times. Hope this helps a little.

Re: Need a little help!
I'll throw this out there, price the 5 lug rotors, and then price the 6 lug rotors... you'll be spending that double to tripple cost every time you ned new rotors, and since only one compnay makes the rotors (from what I've been told) if they end up going under, you'll end up converting anyways.
Wheel selection is considerably larger in the 5 lug market too. Just some things to think of before spending your money. |
Re: Need a little help!
Good suggestion. The money you can save can be put toward a 71-72 5-lug rearend or some conversion axles to make your original rearend 5-lug also.
