radiator question
1 Attachment(s)
I got a rad from a 52 chevy 3 ton and found out yesterday that it is different than my 54 gmc 1.5 ton rad. the chevy one has the cap on the top of the tank. the gmc rad has a neck on the engine side that the cap goes on. not that it's a big deal. just want to know if what i paid for the chevy rad was too much and can i recoup my money to put twards getting my gmc rad fixed. I paid $70.00 for the chevy rad that came out of a running truck. I pressure tested the rad before i pulled it out. it is a good rad. it is a harrison 3128514. here is a pix. :gmc:

Re: radiator question
54 jimmy,
Radiators are bringing $1.42 /lb here at the scrapyard. if it weighs 50lbs you only paid scrap value for it. Someone is probably looking for one of those right now!! Jeff |
Re: radiator question
i wasn't planning on scraping a good rad. just wanted to know if it was worth what i paid for it. an if i could sell it for what i paid. i know a new one is about $400.00 to $500.00. that is why i bought this one because it was good. mine has seen better days. their is a few places around here that will repair or recore mine for about $250.00 beats $500.00 for a new one. espically one a limited budget like mine.

Re: radiator question
Any idea if that will fit a 3/4 ton? I may be interested if it would fit my 51 Chevy.

Re: radiator question
i just payed 500 for a re-cored original 52 rad. i think a recore is a better choice than those new aluminum rads. it was beefed up to handle a 350

Re: radiator question
bretcopsey should fit the only thing different i think is that this i a 2 or 3 core not a single core. pm me with p# if intrested. mylow53 i know what you mean the new rads are junk. the shop i an going to have fix mine told me to stay away fron them. he has had more of those new rads in for more costly repairs than most of the old orignal brass rads.
