Under Cab Issue
3 Attachment(s)
I recently got a 67 chevy and I am just starting to find out what needs to be done to make it safe and reliable. Right now my biggest concern is the rust damage to my cab's support frame (There are pictures of what I'm talking about)
I was planning on using this as a daily driver for a little while before I took it off the road to do any major work but I'm not sure it is safe to drive this way. How would I fix this? All four corners have rusted away but everything else seems intact (you can see in the first picture what the rest of the under carriage and the actual frame looks like). Cheers |

Re: Under Cab Issue
The cab supports are welded in.Can you weld? The other thing is the rest of the cab.If it has much rust/damage it may be easier or better to replace it.You may want to post up more pics of the overall cab, rocker area, floorboards and cab corners. Many of the members here are very knowledgeable and can help point you in the right direction. One of the members has even done a set of videos on replacing some of the common areas where rust lurks.

Re: Under Cab Issue
i would not worry about the safety of those rust spots. i would check where the cab mounts to the frame. if they are rusted real bad then i would worry about it. the places you have pictured are more cosmetic than structural.the rust would have to be alot worse than that to be unsafe to drive. check the brakes, brake lines, steering components and suspension for excessive wear before driving.

Re: Under Cab Issue
I drive mine...the 69 Fleet everyday. No heat. No braces left in the cab at all. I think the only thing holding the cab to the truck is the steering column and the doghouse. Your truck is in alot better shape then mine! I wouldnt worry about the rust you got...you can drive it. If I can drive mine...you can feel safe driving yours. I always make jokes about how I may turn a corner one day and I will be sitting in the cab in the middle of the street and the rest of the truck going on without me!

Re: Under Cab Issue
Good to hear I can still drive it, the rest of the rust isn't nearly as bad. I have some friends that can weld so I will see what they say about fixing it. I want to keep the truck completely original so I still need to research all the rules of how I'm allowed to fix things. (I usually just fix junkers to get me from point A to point B,)
Thanks, great site! |
