if i take off my mirrors what should i do about the holes? i would like to buy new doors, but thats way done the list budget wise. i don't know how to weld or have a welder. i would like to put little round mirrors on it.
you can kinda see my big mirrors in this pic Attachment 339756 Attachment 339755 these are off of chevelles and el caminos but they have a cool bowtie on the back .http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/i...lies/chevy.gif :chevy: |
Re: another ?
You can shave the heads down on carriage bolts put them through the unused holes and paint them to match. It' not perfect but it's not bad.
|
Re: another ?
any bolt for that matter,,, those tiny mirrors arent much good for seeing outta tho i had em on my 86 and couldnt wait to put dumbos on
|
Re: another ?
Dumbos all the way!! :metal:
|
Re: another ?
What i plan to do is fit some dumbo mirrors to where they cover the old holes... i have one mirror like you have and one's a tripod... grandad wanted the tripods, but it wouldnt fit in his garage with two of em so the passenger side had a mirror like the ones you have... it drives me crazy when you look at it straight on...

Re: another ?
i like the smaller mirrors. i think im going with some of the smaller square type myself

Here's what i did when i installed the sport mirrors.
Attachment 339973 The bullet hole stickers are still on there and will be removed whenever i get around to redoing the whole truck and that could be forever. |
Re: another ?
A little fiberglass on the inside and a little filler on the outside and your done, Jim
|
Re: another ?
Just find someone to weld the holes up for ya....it's the best way....
|
Re: another ?
Just remember, any hole over 1/8th of an inch on body panels should have a small patch panel weled in .. Anythin smaller you can put a piece of brass behind the hold and weld around the hole till its filled, the weld wont stick to the brass.
|
Re: another ?
i like a combination of 87 stepper and james mcclure ideas for now.
|
Re: another ?
Fiberglass may loosen and pop off.....doors flex when opened and closed/slammed....etc.....
I'm sure you could find someone to weld up the holes for ya.....cheap. |
Re: another ?
Josh does have a point, sort of. You need a clean base for good fiberglass work and getting the area that needs the glass would be tough to get clean enough even on a good day. No matter which way you go, weld up or glass, paint it real good when your done. jim

Re: another ?
Ken, Just lock the wheel and punch it. I would assume it got the name "cookie" because the tire tracks are circular.
http://thumbs.streetfire.net/57adee4...2819b23dcf.jpgSTI Cookies Anyways, I have the oem sport mirrors and they are pretty worthless. The passenger side lacks concave glass so the picture you get out of it is quite narrow. |
Re: another ?
Little ones look awesome to me but they are worthless when pulling something. They sure look good though.
|
Re: another ?
this is my toy truck so i wont be using it for regular work. i just want some mirrors on it to be legal. so i want something that looks decent. besides if you need mirrors what good are the windows?

Re: another ?
anyhow how does a cookie differ from a doughnut?
|
Re: another ?
Cookies == donuts
First saw that in a Tonya Harding interview. |
Re: another ?
A cookie is accomplished with an open differential, whereas a donut is accomplished with a posi or locker.
At least that's the way I always understood it to be. A donut has an outer and inner circle, much like the black tire prints from a vehicle spinning both rear tires. Whereas a cookie only has the outer circle, much like the single spinning tire from an open diff. |
Re: another ?
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh clear as mud.
|
Re: another ?
wow i never thought about the difference between cookies and donuts but makes alot of sense. yeah he got scared but a honda was e braking and i had to show him up
