is a 4wd power steering box from a 1976 chevy the same steering box as the
2wd box

No, they are not the same, that includes every year from 73-87(91)

Capt is right. GM uses "800" steering gear in all its light duty trucks up to 1 ton. Difference is sector shaft diameter and wheather box is mounted inside or outside the frame. Internally they are the same. Also to be noted, be careful of fluid line attaching thread diameter and pitch. They changed over to metric but I don't remember when this was done. Easy to check though. If it's metric the wrench that fits it will tell you. jim

I think it was in 1981 when they went to metric.
