I bought this 1978 1/2 off ebay from 20 miles down the road. Paid 1500. So far it runs nice. My plan is to take the enigine, tranny, PS, PB, and front crossmember and transplant them into my chopped 1960 1/2. I don't know much about 1973-87's I know i didn't overpay, but is it worth more? What about the parts left over what are they worth? Thx.

If it runs good, then yes look like a good deal. Body looks in really good shape too.

I'd say you did ok.

But out of 11 views as of now and no responces except for mine as of now i'd say most here don't really want to hear that you bought it to canabalize it for your '60 but that's just a guess on my part.

Also you really can't ask what something is worth or how much you can make from the unused parts unless you are a site supporter and im sure one of the mod's will tell you this soon as im not trying to do that job but just can't give you an answer to that ? .

Any way im not sure why anyone would install a cowl on a hood backwords it really looks retarded and if i were you i would not be seen driving that truck around like that.

It's cool...I really hate the backwards cowl. I didn't even realize it was a cowl. I just thought it was an ugly hood scoop. It will be turned around soon. I've been driving it the past few days, and it is fun to drive. I may have to leave it as it is, but for now its destiny is for the 60' but who knows I may get attached and join the 73-87 crowd.

good score, there is nothing wrong with transplanting the engine and tranny into your 60 . they are your trucks, do what you want to with them. after all, you spent your money on them both. dont let anyone give you any grief, i bought a perfectly good(not really) 89 suburban and hacked it up to re-do my 83 c-10

Im with STEPPER on the hood. If your going to drive it around or keep it, that hood scoop / cowl has to fixed :lol: other than that it looks like a good truck. to good to cut up in my opinion. Keep us posted on the plan.

Ok, lets start this over. Welcome to the 73-87 forum 65stepside. We are really glad you dropped in. To answer your questions, it looks like you got a decent deal. From the pics the body appears to be solid, so that's a huge plus.

That will make a great donor truck for you if you still plan to go that route. When you have it stripped, the body should sell if it really is as solid as it appears.

Yeah, as mentioned you will need to become a subscribing member if you want to sell off the parts...:)

welcome to the forums... a truck as nice as that should be kept and not canibalized.. Im surprised you couldnt find an old work truck that would have had the parts you needed for alot less... i regularly buy running work trucks here for about $3-500 that my business gets a year out of or more

They are PLENTY of these trucks in junky shape that you can canibalize parts from, and they don't even cost $1500. Hell, I'm sure you could just turn the hood scoop around, do a little work on it, and sell it for $2000.

I will admit, some of the mods are a little gaudy that the PO did, but with a little work I think you can turn it into a tasteful looking truck. A lot of it is just the interior and stereo that I don't like.

Don't forget about Suburbans either, it's all the same parts. Go to your junk yard and see.

Looks like a decent driver (a clean driver makes for a cleaner parts donor vehicle too, break out the air tools and sawzall - LOL)

Some of the contrasts on the truck are interesting (A/T tires combined with purple flames and a scoop)

I'm sure there are trucks out there that are more beat up and have less life in them that you can rip apart for parts... that one seems too nice to blow apart... Just get rid of the 33" tires, the funky reversed-cowl-induction hood scoop and those purple flames and you would have a cool driver there....

I personally think that is the tackiest truck I have ever seen on this board even if it is in good shape you are doing the world a favor for parting it out .

I'm with palf.. if the truck runs good, you got a good deal. As for the rest, do what you want.. its yours and as much as I hate seeing these trucks tore up as donors, well its yours to do what you want with.

The good thing is a lot of it can be undone. The wheels and tires can be changed, the tail lights can be put back to stock, and all the "add ons" in the interior can be removed, and some black paint thrown on the front end, and that "scoop" removed entirely and the holes plugged. I'd even remove the tube grill and stick a $30 LMC grill in it. Sure it won't be a show truck, and there may be some holes left in the dash, but for a driver, it's certainly not past the point of no return.

is it the prettiest thing ive ever seen? nope. however, aside from a few tacky little details the truck would be pretty clean as long as its not a bondo buggy. some people think rust free and running driver 73-87's for under$1500.00 are over populating the planet, until they try to find one. anyways, if the powertrains good and by the pics most of the not so cheesy add-ons look new (price out a new aluminum crossover box latley?) i think you got a good deal either by keeping it or parting.

I think it was a decent score. True some of the add ons are tacky but she looks like a solid driver. I think the body alone is worth some $$ if it is not a bondo bucket. Maybe you will stick to your plan or maybe just maybe it will grow on you and we might just see you in this section more often.

wow I am suprised about the negative reaction...
It dosent look too rusty, unless there is a gallon of bondo and popriveted license plates under that shiny paint...
I would go ahead and use the rear axle as well... then you are all five lug all around.
there look to be a ton of good parts as well, throw them on here or ebay!
those 73 -87's are plentiful still in these parts, and with the price of gas going up, even the big blocks are starting to come out of the woodwork-and cheap!

Have you researched your cut windshield yet?
was your roof widened when they chopped it? If so could post some pics of the inner panel?

Haven't worked on cutting the windshield yet... :( The roof stayed the same. What inner panel did you want a pic of? I'll post it in my build thread for ya.

And unfortunatly I already bought some 1930's artillery wheels that are 6 lug that are going on the 60 Chop. So I'm gonna have to get the 5->6 lug conversion kit for the front. Got a 3:73 posi for the rear.
