Frame mount electric fuel pump w/dual tanks
Is anybody running an EFI engine with a frame mounted electric fuel pump on the engine side of the fuel tank switch valve?
If so, how is that working for you? |
Re: Frame mount electric fuel pump w/dual tanks

Re: Frame mount electric fuel pump w/dual tanks
Why are you wanting to switch Larry? there are several benefits to the tank mounted pumps. All my dual tanks trucks are intank pumps.

Cuz my tank selcetor valve blew apart due to the higher fuel pressures that the TPI needs as opposed to the lower pressure required for the TBI system. May be thats why he want's to switch. My truck is a factory dual tanker but i'v only had one tank since i installed the TPI and that was about 1990. |
Re: Frame mount electric fuel pump w/dual tanks
If you get an aftermarket fuel selector they are rated for higher pressure (I think 80lbs), and its written on the selector.. I think NAPA carries them. I am going to get one for my 1987 for the 6.0L swap.

Re: Frame mount electric fuel pump w/dual tanks
I am not switching…..my truck is a 1978 which is 9 years before the pumps were in the tank or EFI. It is a long story why I am asking this question but it is related to this thread….
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=263323 Basically, the Racepumps mechanical fuel pump for EFI didn’t work out so well for my MPI project. I got tired of messing with it and in the process of adding a frame mount electric pump. I have heard some people claim to have good luck with a frame mount pump pulling through a tank switch valve and others claim to have experienced nothing but problems. I think it all depends on which switch valve is used makes the difference with those that had problems and those that didn't. I still may end up going the route of running a couple in-tank pumps later but I want to see how well the frame mount works first. Cheaper and easier that way. Just looking for someone that has a frame mount pump w/dual tanks and EFI to gauge their luck. |
Re: Frame mount electric fuel pump w/dual tanks
a guy named 1badc10 on performancetrucks.net and ls1truck.com has an external pump mounted on his frame "after" the valve. He's running a 5.3 efi with dual tanks in his 86 c10.
He's got a whole write up on his swap there. Click here |
