How many mpg are you getting?

It would be interesting if everyone would share how many Miles Per Gallon they are getting with their trucks. Also if you would state what motor, tranny, rear end ratio and tire size you are using would be helpful. Thanks EJ

crazy longhorn 10-26-2002 03:04 PM

72 LWB, 350 crate, headers, HEI, Edelbrock 1406, 96'Chev1/2ton 5 speed gearbox, 235x75R15s, 308posi rear =====21-22mpg on the flats. If towing my bass boat====15mpg. Going up and down mountains in WV====18mpg.
GORDO with a short bed and 700r4 with 373 rear gets 20+. Overdrive transmissions help a lot as does a soft touch on the pedal due to a light wallet!!
Can still get rubber out of 2nd gear when necessary. Now for the killer===============My 1997 C5 CORVETTE WITH A 6 SPEED GETS 31-32 MPG ON THE HIGHWAY AND CAN DELIVER 0-60 IN UNDER 5 SECONDS ANYTIME!!! By the way, the Corvette is for sale at $24,900. ----Huck:D

285/16 tires, 3.54 gears , fresh 350 with performer cam in a 9.5:1 350 with world product S/R heads , HEI, quadrajet , close ratio 4 speed weighs in at about 4400 lbs without me in it. I get 12 in the city and about 13 on the hiway.

Chevy409 10-26-2002 04:42 PM

I measure in feet, not miles... I'm gettin' 8 mph with 3.08 gears (which suck) and the rest is in my sig:whine:

Russ72C10 10-26-2002 05:27 PM

Get approx. 8mpg in the city and highway. 355ci.... 3.08 gears... 255/60/15 tires. TH350 tranny. It could be downhill, uphill, pulling a trailer, or being pulled behind a tow truck... still 8mpg. LOL!

9MPG, 350, 4 speed, 4:10 gears, 325/60R15 tires, a mix of highway and stop and go.

Project1970 10-26-2002 06:45 PM

13-17mpg depending on conditions and my right foot. :)

Original / stock bottom end 350, Vortec heads (for about 10:1 compression! Chugging premium now!), Edelbrock Performer intake, Edelbrock #1901 Quadrajet, no-name HEI, dual exhaust...the power runs through a decently built 700R4, 3.73 open rear, and 275/60TR15 tires (28" tall).

Patrick Sullivan 10-26-2002 07:50 PM

Approx 14 MPG, original 350/350 combo, 4.10 rear end. Running 14 initial advance with 92 octane got me to 14, originally was getting around 10.

Edit: Oh yea, running 31's on the back (32's up front, to level the stance a bit.. :D )

Sierra 10-26-2002 08:04 PM

Hooter 10-26-2002 09:46 PM

BrianStep72 10-27-2002 12:00 AM

I have NOT wanted to think about how FEW MPG i am getting with my truck, but I think it's about 10 -12 mpg.

I have a stock 307, with a Edlebrock 4BBL 600 CFM carb, my 3 on the tree and standard rear end.

I don't thnk folks drive these trucks for the mileage, but....

you could swap in a late model V6 if you wanted to worry about such and wanted an everyday driver 20+ mpg.

just a thought..

my 1971 cheyenne/20 gets about 8mpg in the city and about 10 mpg on the highway if i drive the speed limit but i usally dont. I have got a rebuilt 350 with the original thm350 tranny and for a 3/4 ton truck i have had it clocked at 145 mph as the guy that owned it before me was going to convert it to a 1/2 ton street/strip truck the truck look pretty crummy cause i just wrecked it and being in high school and working fast food gives me far less money supply than most of you guys to rebuild the truck and the picture was taken 2 days before the wreck so you cant see the after math :whine:

My best so far is 14.16 mpg. Doing 65 for 100 miles and doing 75 bucking a strong wind for 30 miles.
Mild 350 with a 700R4, 3.73 gears and 255/50/17's (27" tall)

MJN 10-27-2002 10:47 AM

12 on a good day, 350/turbo 350 3:08 posi 12 bolt 35" tire, 4" lift and stupid roof visor. '72 K/5

Fred T 10-27-2002 11:14 AM

To calculate my mpg would require a working odometer, which I am not in a hurry to fix. All that I know is that it is less than 10. :( 350 with medium cam of unknown ancestry, small port heads, HEI, headers, 650 Holley, TH400, 3.90? gears and 31" tires.

treefrog 10-27-2002 12:53 PM

Great Mileage

I'm running 27.5" tires with a 3.07. Getting 26 City and 31 Highway, with a tricked out out 4 cylinder Toyota. Little slow off the line. TF :p
