Dude, change your font, all us old guys can't see worth a darn!

Re: 94 lt1 upgrade

sorry about the font , i'm new to this sight and i didn't know how to change it after i used it dan42. hey fast fun i was told that in order to have the stronger shift to go with 700r4 because the throttle and kickdown cable will control your shifting , the smother shift the 4l60e is controled by the computer and they sometimes shift too fast

I'm running an LS1. There are a half dozen guys around here that have LT1 installed, but most people I've seen avoid the GenII small blocks (LT1) and go for the GenIII small blocks (LS1, LM7, LQ4, LQ9, etc.)

i'll be sending some pics soon . i just got my baby back from the tranny shop and boy do i like the overdrive. :metal: the 700r4 shifts a lot harder than the 350turbo 1st to 2nd to 3rd and even the overdrive shift is pretty stout. :chevy:

Re: 94 lt1 upgrade

People are quick to discount the LT1 motor. I have a '94 Corvette that has the LT1 in it and I'm running in the 12s without any head/internal work. This motor responds very well to most bolt-on mods and computer tuning. Although the LT motors don't have the more efficient heads as the LS motors, they will hold their own and they are cheaper to upgrade. Of course cheaper is a relative term. I was going to put in a LT1 in my truck until I started doing the math and then I decided to go "old school."

Re: 94 lt1 upgrade

I can usually get a GenIII for the same price, often times cheaper, than a GenII LT1, with less miles or wear/tear.

It's a worthy swap (the LT1), and if I had a free one, and I could work around the opti-spark issues that are inherent to that engine, I'd put it in my truck in a heartbeat. My reality is, GenIII engine/tranny combos from 99+ trucks and SUVs sell in my area for around $500-1500 with the tranny attached and all peripherals/computer/wiring. I can't even get a crate 350 that cheap. :D

I'm working over a 95 cast iron head lt1 right now. Going with a GM performace 4bbl intake and mallory dist. Sold the original harness and fuel injection stuff and was able to fund all the old school stuff. I don't own a lap top but I got plenty of screwdrivers.

That's cool. I think I am going to get a 700R4 from Bowtie with their TV cable.

Here is a picture of my LT1. I should have it on the frame in a month.

you can get them from S&P @ www.hotrodlane.cc

prepare to spend more money on the brackets than you did on your entire engine ;)

I have a LT1 and a set of the LT1 Alum heads, but I am considering the full LT4 upgrade and possibly a stroker 383 crank.

No Idea, I don't have a tuner, I sent my PCM off to be re-tuned. If you find a shop, let me know. I haven't been looking.

I can probably talk to the guys in GASSIT to find shops nearby: http://bellsouthpwp.net/n/o/norm_c/gassit_home.htm

They have a Yahoo Group you can join. http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/GASSIT/

Granted - they are for "Impalas", but ... they verge outside that, and one or two of them have GenIII engines in their cars.

One of the guys I work with is part of their club.

I have an LS 5.3 in my 72 blazer and it has a 700r4 but can't get it to shift like it should b/c it doesn't have a place to put a d-tent cable. I rigged up a bracket but it never shifts like it should unless I'm wide-open (COPS FROWN ON THIS). I already bought a 4l60 to replace it. That sux b/c I just paid to have the 700 rebuilt.

Wait4MePerformance.

http://www.wait4meperformance.com/

I would NOT do business again with them, because the communication was ass-tastic (i.e. non-existent). I would prefer to go with some other vendor in the future, unless something drastic has changed with Wait4Me in the past year or two.
