tubes in slicks
 

I'm running a hoosier qtp 28/14.5/16, and was wondering if you guys know of anybody that sells tubes for this size? I've been all over town here in okc and nobody sells them. I think i can order them from hoosier but don't know what they'll cost.

Did you try Carter Maxwell yet (405) 789-8253? They are the local Goodyear Racing dealer. I bought my last two sets of slicks from these guys. Good Luck.

I ran tubes for years and one of the best things I ever did was taking them out . You can rub the inside of the tire with some berrymans tire sealer or do nothing at all . They will lose air but you will never have a tube come apart and ruin a trip to the track . I have opened my trailer the day after a race on more than one occasion to find a flat slick becuase the stem seperated from the tube . On top of all this I picked up about 5 hundreds by getting rid of all that rotating weight .

Regan, can the slicks that i have be patched? I have a small hole about the size of a ball point pen that leaks. Other than that my slicks hold air pretty good.

I dont know if that would be dependable or not . I have seen alot of people just put a plug in one to get through the night . You could try a patch and if it failed then put a plug in it till you could do something else .

I have been 143mph in my old camaro with a slick with a plug in it! I would try it! You should be fine. I usually use a self vulcanizing plug.

Not trying to highjack this , but do any of you not run tubes ? I have run truck tubes in mine and had pretty good luck . I now have M/T race tubes . When I tried slicks without tubes I was always messin with tire pressures . Seemed like a hassle . Just looking for input.

I run tubeless and I usually coat the inside of the tire with dawn dish washing detergent. Its cheap and helps to seal the tire!

I don't run tubes either. I used to use dawn soap to coat the tires...now I tried Green Slime...a thin layer and let dry. So far I havent loss any air pressure in a week.
MT 32x16-15 stiff side walls.

Thanks everyone, I guess i'll try plugging it and coating the inside with that green slime. Hopefully that works. Don't really want to run tubes being they're $60 apiece. Have better place to spend that money.

I've never ran any tubes, and have never lost any air pressure at all, even over winter still the same as when I parked it. Hoosier QTP's second set I've had, going to Mickeys this year cause they have the rollout size I want, hope they don't give me any trouble!

Where can i find a vulcanizing plugs? Is it the same type of plugs that napa would carry?

So i'm the only tube guy here ? I still have the 4x4s nailed to 2x4s that slide under the traction bars for storage / air loss . And I keep a pair of valve stems in the tool box incase i have a flat at the track .

I used to run tubes, but I have had some leaks with them. I think while running 5-6lbs of air in them just wasn't keep them full enuff. They would/could fold. Theres also the added weight(un sprung)
