drop member and kp notch on 4wd frame?
 

I have finally finished my unexpected project so I can get back on to my blazer but now im not sure which direction I want to go. It is an original 71 2wd. The problem is I want it LOW but I dont want to cut the original frame in case I ever want to put it back to stock. So could I use a 4wd frame with one of porters drop members, a 4link and a kp notch? Im sure this is a stupid question and has been answered a thousand times but I just wanted to make sure before I started buying parts.

Yes the Dropmember will work. I have done it as well as Kyle4381. You will not need the special 60-72 notch. You can use a standard step notch since the framerails are straight on a 4wd. Check out my "How to ruin a perfectly good Blazer" thread or Kyle's thread in the Projects and Builds forum...

Am I misunderstanding something, or is it completely impossible to install the kontrol phreaks step notch and nate's dropmember without cutting the original frame?

Dropmember requires notching for the steering, kp stepnotch requires cutting once the notch is welded in.

You have to chop to be low low.

Right - the original poster was expressing he didn't want to cut the frame. I didn't think it was really possible to get lower than a 5/7ish drop without cutting.

Sorry I worded that wrong. I have an original 2wd fram that I dont want to cut. I also have acces to a 4wd that I dont mind cutting all to pieces. This is as low as I have been able to get it without cutting the frame. This is just bags with cut cups no notch.

The single quickest, cheapest drop you'd get out of it would be tossing some 2.5" drop spindles in the front, IMHO. It would even it up and have both wheels sitting in about the same place. Opposite extreme, if you want to lay frame and get down that extra 4-5", KP stepnotch and dropmember all the way. Or something in the middle, bolt-in notch, drop spindles and 2" blocks will have you in between IMO.

Agreed. Spindles and bolt-in notch will probably make you happy, but if you're like me it'll just make you want more:metal:

I would go with a 4 wheel frame and chop it up while keeping the original 2 wheeler in the back 40 just in case you need it later (for another project or to put back to original). The only other obstacle I can think of is how do you feel about cutting the original floor? To take advantage of a step notch I believe you would have to clearance the rear floor pan (going off of gringoloco's thread) to allow the axle to come up.

And I see somebody has an LS1 in their rig.

Ok im going to check on the 4wd blazer tomorrow. I dont really mind cutting the stock floor since it is already rusty. I had thought about putting a wood bed in it anyway. Im not sure if you were talking to me or not but yes it has a lsx in it. The plan calls for a twin turbo 408 but I want to get the frame done first. I dont think I would be happy with spindles and I would still have the problem of having to cut the frame for a bolt in notch.

I went and checked ou the 4x4 today. It is a 72 with a 68 front clip. The only good parts on it are the frame, top, rear seat and front clip. He is suppose to call me back and let me know what he wants for it. He alos has a swb frame but I think the blazer frame would be the eaisest to use.
