Should I lift it?

So I looked for months to find a nice K5. Passed on all the lifted ones because they had too many other modifications for my taste. Finally found this unmolested truck and like it that way. However, I am itching for a 4" lift, 15x10 Classic II's and 33"x12.5" BFG's or Wrangler (MTR's?). The only other mod I would ever make on the truck is add a 3 spoke GM wood steering wheel. It's never been lifted as far as I can tell. Should I do it? Or leave it the way it is?

Hmmm...
Nice blazer. At the minimum, it could use some taller and wider tires. I believe you can fit up to 33"s on the stock height. Not sure they would fit on the stock rims...but they could be widened if you like the look.
I think 4" with 33"s is just about perfect for an all around look.

4 inch lift with 33s and the classic 2s will make that truck look good . thats what i started out with on my blazer and well i got the itch to go higher

Re: Should I lift it?

I'm running a 4" lift with the stock wheels/tire combo. If you don't like it it can be swapped back.

Keep in mind, your ride will change if you lift it and put on bigger/wider tires.

I run 32x11.50 MT/Rs on 15x8 wagon wheels w/stock suspension. It looks OK but I want to make it higher.

I think it will look good either way. Can you ever make one look bad? Do you have any other pics of it? It looks really nice.

Re: Should I lift it?

Post it up in photoshop and you'll be able to see what it would look like prior to acually doing it.

4" lift w/33's is a classic look for the blazers but yours is so stock now...tough call.

Fair warning, once you start...;)

I could've answered that without even looking at the pic. By all means...lift it!

I put ralleys and 31's on it right after I got it a year and a half ago. That kept me for a while. I swap on the original wheels/caps depending on my mood - but a lift kit is a commitment. It's a pretty 'bouncy' ride. I figure it needs shocks so wondering if I get a set or just go for the lift. I'll put it on the photoshop forum and see if anyone can put the 4", classics, and 33's on it. P.S. The rust hole is fixed now. http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=270838

I would lift it for sure. The lift and the M/T classic II's suit our trucks perfectly. I hope to do the same thing soon. Later, Mario.

Re: Should I lift it?

Lift it! DO IT! But, like vtblazer said, once you do the lift, you'll find yourself saying, "Might as well...", and will start showing other symptoms of the "sickness". Admitting you have the disease is just the first step to recovery. I refuse to admit it :D

Re: Should I lift it?

I'd put some different wheels on there first and see how much you like it, and then go from there.

I like the stock look better but apparently i'm the only one.

Re: Should I lift it?

Do not lift it. It compromises the ride and destroys another original. They weren't designed to be lifted and there is really no point other than being able to put bigger tires on it. I say leave it stock height.

True it changes the spring rates but not necessarily the ride, in some cases it will improve the old style truck ride, provide for a safer vehicle and all around better handling driver.

Contingent on the condition of the existing 'stock/original' suspension and what their being replaced with of course. ;)

Re: Should I lift it?

Lift it - keep the original parts - don't like it, put it back.
Very nice ride either way!

stomper 03-28-2008 07:56 AM

Re: Should I lift it?

I know I will love the way it looks lifted with Classic II's and I'm not worried about ride quality. I installed a 6" Skyjacker Softride on an '86 suburban and it rode better after the lift and 35's.

My quandry is molesting this virgin K5. I can put the stock springs back on but honestly, I probably never would - and it's only original once. I feel more like a curator of a piece of history than "it's mine and I can do what I want with it". I dunno, maybe I'm overthinking it - it's just an old truck with a bunch of miles on it.:smoke:
