Good some better rear fenders for my 66 short step, Now its time to think about some tail lights to maybe french into them. Im thinking about maybe some early 60s Impala our maybe the stock fleet sides frenched into the fenders. Any Ideas or pics anyone Thanks Steve

Re: any good stepside tail light Ideas ?
the early 60 chevy wagon lights are cool. they are like small bullets, rather than the popular 59 cad lights.

how about 38/39 ford taillights or how about these........

Re: any good stepside tail light Ideas ?
tear drops are as common as the 59 cad lights. go with something a little more original. if you want to go with the 39 ford lights, you can get the ones with the devil head... theres an idea.

I seem to remember seeing some lights that slip into the top rail on the step sides. Those looked cool, but I am not sure if they provide sufficient tail/brake lighting.

Re: any good stepside tail light Ideas ?
I saw a picture once of a 70's camaro style brake light, with the recessed cone shape, Frenched into the rear of the step side rear fender once.

Re: any good stepside tail light Ideas ?
on my old 75 step side someone had installed flush lights from a international harvester. they looked pretty good. must be a pretty common swap because I`ve seen a bunch of trucks with them. funny though, I don`t remember seeing any untill I had my truck but I guess I just never noticed them before.

I liked your idea of fitting in fleetside taillights... very clean. Don't think I've ever seen it done.

Re: any good stepside tail light Ideas ?
Thanks Guys, Im not doing alot to this truck. Its a daily driver (one of them) and I have a driveway from hell. It is lowered some but not slammed and Im not doing alot of body mods to it. I dont want to get to custom looking on tail lights just a lil diffrent but stay with the flow of the stock body.

I used LED trailer lights on my 65, they are very bright and not too expensive.

Re: any good stepside tail light Ideas ?
I never could get past craving a set of 59 Caddy lights, so I had my son whittle up some brackets that mimic the fender shape.
http://img576.imageshack.us/img576/6928/taillight01.jpg http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/6657/taillight02.jpg I seriously considered 50 Pontiac taillights mounted directly to the fenders, but the new reproductions didn’t exist at the time, and decent originals were both expensive and difficult to find. I’ve seen several trucks with late 50’s Corvette taillight scoops added to the sides of the fenders, with either stock Corvette lights or Caddy lenses added. It requires a lot of work and I don’t care for the finished look all that much. On a low budget build I like the idea of the frenched fleetside lights. Also check out the Lakeroadster build thread. I think he installed Impala lights on his and they look great. Once the base is in place, I imagine you might be able to play around with different lenses for even more variation. |
Re: any good stepside tail light Ideas ?
I found one online once with what seemed like modern corvette tail lights (all 4)in the roll pan, was on a fleetside though. Looked kinda cool and different but i personally wasnt crazy about it..... thought i had a picture of it on my computer somewhere but cant find it

Re: any good stepside tail light Ideas ?
Yeah I'm about to install the same ones as chevy fleetside for these trucks I think they look the best IMO :metal:
