Fuel Strainer
Can i run without a fuel strainer, and an inline filter in front of the pump, as well as in front of the carb? None of my local dealers want to order me one and i want to get my truck back on the road.
Thanks Matt |
Re: Fuel Strainer
go to NAPA or whatever and get a cheap filter and put it front of the carb. You are asking for trouble by running w/o a filter.

My bad, i misunderstood what you said

Re: Fuel Strainer
I never run the strainer, and you should never run a filter before the pump. The more dirt that gets in the filter, the more it reduces the pressure in the line as opposed to atmospheric pressure, and this can cause, or agravate a vapor lock condition.

Thanks for the quick answer, so it's ok if all the dirt and rust and 40 years of other crap that is in the tank goes through the pump? I just figured it was bad for that stuff to hit the pump. |
Re: Fuel Strainer
if you have the mechanical pump, then yeah it's fine. If electric... then no.
I doubt you have a WHOLE LOTTA CRAP in there... you'd probably be stressin if you looked in there and it was real bad. |
