smog checks for pre 76 in Cali?

I just heard in the news that there is a smog bill being looked at that requires all pre 76 cars/trucks to be checked every two years? Well so much for puting the LT1 in my 63 or the TBI 94 in my 66. This sucks!

Ok, I'm not in California, but what I don't understand about legislation like this is that the 94 EFI engine is going to run a lot cleaner than the original engine ever would have. Seems to me, it's the tailpipe emissions that are important, not what engine happened to make them. Besides, there's no reason a late model LS1 with cats couldn't be as clean as a 2007 model.

well, I can speak for Alaska. anything older than '67 had no emission test, '67-'76 was tailpipe only. so it didn't matter what was under the hood as long as the tailpipe emissions are good. In Oklahoma now with no emissions.....yet

They try this every couple of years or so but it never seems to go through. On your swap if you ever need to get it smogged, the TBI would be no problem if you use all of the emission equipment that came with the vehicle.

The cut off use to be 65 for as long as i can remember so the 63 won`t be a issue but in case they drop that low I`m not sure if it would be legal because technicaly your not suppost to put a passenger car engine in a truck. Maybe it`s the other way, can`t rememeber. In any case, I don`t think you`ll have to worrie about it.
