Front Drive Shaft Length
Hi everyone,
I dropped in my 400 turbo with a 203 bolted up to it. Hooked up the tranny insp cover rods up to the motor mounts. Went to install the front drive shaft and it is about 2 inches to long. The transmission, xfer case, driveshaft and frame came from GM together. The front diff is different. It was a Dana 44 and is now a corp 10". No change in the springs. Don't have them on backwards-the stabilizer bolted right up to the spring mount and the frame. Just wondering if the pinion length is different. I plan on taking the shaft over to a place here and getting it shortened. So, I guess the question is; are the Dana 44 and corp 10 different in the length from the spring perch to the pinion/driveshaft attach point. Thanks, Tom |
Re: Front Drive Shaft Length
I know that the Corp 10 center diff is about 1 inch off center (left or right) than a Dana44. I bet the pinion is different too, I know the corp 10 has more "gussets" on the pinion area....

Re: Front Drive Shaft Length
Mike,
Thanks for the reply. I've determined that the length issue was due to the rods running to the mounts. I didn't have the brackets that bolt up to the block. I was attaching them to the mount itself. I've got a scrap 454 bare block and mounted it into position and relocated the rear cross member and magically the driveshaft fit like a glove. Glad I didn't jump the gun and cut the shaft. I'll need to make the rod brackets. Thanks again, Tom |
