Interior rear view mirror modification.

Anyone ever seen those 3,4 & 5 panel interior rear view mirrors? The mounts that come with them are a joke as the require you to screw them into the headliner/roof panel and that causes the mirror to vibrate so bad it ain't even funny. Thankfully though they offer other mounts for them so you can mount them right to the windshield just like the original mirror is.
I first put one of these (5 panel) into my old 74 442 cutlass 20 yrs ago. and have been hooked since. When I picked up my Suburban I noticed that if I centered the 5 panel on the windshield, there was enough of a gap at either end for a couple of more panels........Hmmmmm
I went ahead and picked up a 4 panel and sliced it in two then I bondo'd half of it to the right end of my old 5 panel and added one more windshield arm to it to give it the support it needed. So now my interior mirror is 7(SEVEN) panels wide and I sit high enough in the seat that it also acts as a visor for me as well. Here's some pics of the finished product.......

Thats pretty neat, but does it help that much more? I like it, even tho I have never seen or heard of such. time to start looking around the salvage yard a little closer.

i had one of them years back and it was nice but it was billed to eliminate the blind spot and it doesnt so you still have to look over shoulders when switching lanes.. other than that its cool

Thats another reason I added the 2 extra panels to mine. With that mirror and my outside rearviews, my blind spots have been reduced by almost 90%.
I've got my outside rearviews set to where I can barely see the rear corners of my burb. The 7 panel mirror allows me to see everything up to the passengers side rear door window and the same for the drivers side. I'll get some pics of the views later on and post them here this evening.
