Frame ???'s
 

I am fabbing a new frame for my 62 chevy stepside out of 2x4 tubing. everything is going good. Was going to buy the air ride "strong arms'' and make my own crossmember similar to a mustang 2 setup, the only prob im kinda gettin confused with is im wanting to riase the crossmember a couple of inches for more clearance because (bagged and on 20's) and keeping all control arms and geometry right and installing a manuel rack and pinion... I know there is a kit from porter built but a lil pricy for what i had in mind. Anyone have any pics, ideas or advice for me?? It would be greatly appreciated!

why not go with a fat man or scotts hot rod front end they are half the price of the porter built there is also a company that makes a cross member that uses the corvette stuff if you wanted to go that route i can find the link if you are interested

Ya thats cool. I would appreciate it. was tyring to stay with same lug bolt pattern because i already have 20's but i guess i could figure something out.

that is just a cpl places you can get the stuff you need i too think the porter built stuff is to high for me i am building a truck right now and trying to build the entire truck for what a porter built set up cost its Z'ed 20's LT1 air ride tech A arms triangulated four link suicide doors fast bagged

Have you started the frame yet or are you still planning it out? Unless you are really familiar with suspension geometry I highly recomend buying a front crossmember and not messing with that. The slightest mis-calculation with the rack locations can cause some serious issues with steering. I know that you think Nathans Dropmember is a little pricey but i would highly recommend saving up a few extra $ and going that route. You get a superior product that you know is proven. Anyways good luck and post some pics

Heck ya thats cool! thanks! ya that stuff it high on price, but looks really good and bolts in. but im more into the different look just looks more custom. My truck, well building frame now, have a full tilt fiberglass front end, bags and 20's. building the 4 link and watts link just have it roughed in for now because changing frame specs. but gettin there

just keep up the good work and make sure you do your home work and dont believe everything you read on the net many are trying to promote products that are not superior but cost much more than other products when i was reading on here many said doing a z was super hard and to just spend the 4 g's on the drop member after i did the z it was one of the easiest things i did on the truck

you might want to look at a company called Welder Series. I found out about this company at a car show. They make a ton of ready to weld parts including a Mustang 2 crossmember. It comes in pieces, you just have to put it together. It costs around $225.00. It comes in different track widths. Give them a call.

Here is pic of the crossmember. Its for spring, but i'm sure it could be modified for bags.
