What would a fair offer be on this K20 (aka WIW) - pics inside
This K20 is very local to me (as in less than 4 miles down the road)
The Bad: Pretty much every body panel, Cab is junk, etc. Supposedly it has a 400cid and it seems to have TH350/NP205. Also appears to have the original D44/D60. What would be a Fair offer to give this guy? He's asking $3250, which is way too high for the condition of the body, but I would at least like to get some opinions on what you might think it's worth. I really want a K20, but would like to get one in alot better shape, even if I have to spend a little more. I just figured this is close, and if I could get it for the chassis/drivetrain, I could just get another body or buy another truck that was restored, like Joe's Junk does  http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...0/P1010059.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...0/P1010052.jpg This is kinda interesting, didn't crack where the steering box mounts, but cracked the front crossmember? http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...0/P1010039.jpg Lots More Pictures Here: http://s152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ing5/71%20K20/ |

To me... I would pass. If every panel needs replacement, why waste the time swapping over panels, etc. That's my $.02...

About 2/3 to 1/2 what he`s asking.I`d want it to be less than what the combined good parts are worth.Otherwise, you could gather all the parts and have the same thing. How`s the frame, other than a bad crossmember.Any leaks? How`s the motor?I sold my CheyenneSuper for that much and all it needed was rockers and work on the doors. It had no motor. But,if that motor isn`t pretty fresh, then you can find a used motor for a couple few hundred bucks.
I guess I`d say considering what these go for,in the overall scheme of things, that price ain`t all that bad.Compared to what people are asking these days. You won`t find one better at that price. But,it`s ridiculous that people thing every 67-72 truck is worth good money. It`s all bright and yellow, looks good from afar. But,when it comes down to it,all it is is a start on a resto,a rolling frame with drivetrain,or a truck you can have fun with for a while until pieces start falling off or stuff starts falling out the rust holes. $3,500 is just alot of money unless a good bit of money has been put into mechanics, like front end, brakes, motor, steering. If all it took was swapping a good body on there, that`s one thing.Still alot for a donor. What will the rustfree truck cost for the swap?I see an old truck with so-so mechanics/driveability and a decent body for $7,000-$10,000 after alot of labor. |

In my area that would be a decent price, maybe even a little on the low side. But you don't live in South Western Ontario where this kind of truck (67-72s) are relatively non-existant. If it's all beat up and needs major work I would say offer 1/2 of what he's asking. Worst case scenario is he says no, you still have the money in your pocket, and you continue to look for a truck in better shape for a more reasonable price.

Looks to me like once the sheet metal is sand blasted, you are going to find some major problems. I am speaking from experience............. I thought I had fairly good sheet metal on a car rebuild....NOT
