Project... Rusty but Trusty
Hey guys, this is my new 67 Short Step
Just a simple lil get it on the road & dependable kinda project When I got it http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...7/100_1026.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...7/100_1027.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...7/100_1028.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...7/100_1029.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...8_04270012.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...8_04270013.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...8_04270014.jpg |
Re: Project... Rusty but Trusty
Rear wheels wouldn't roll, so I pulled the drive shaft out to see if the trans was stuck or the rear was busted or the brakes were stuck... dunno what it was, but it didnt break loose till it was on the trailer

Re: Project... Rusty but Trusty
Well, got it into the shop... funny thing happens when you have no brakes & you dont know it
Ran into some stuff laying in its path, but nothing but a funnel was hurt http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...7/100_1047.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...7/100_1048.jpg Put a different starter on it, drained the umm... oil ??? http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...7/100_1051.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...7/100_1052.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...7/100_1053.jpg Then had a war with the oil filter http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...7/100_1056.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...7/100_1055.jpg But in the end, we got it running & will be doing some tests on it tomorrow http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...7/100_1057.jpg |
Re: Project... Rusty but Trusty
Today I worked on getting the engine running again, as it didnt want to start today
Wound up replacing the spark plugs & filing the point & stuff like that, but it was still only building around 30 psi of compression But we finally got it running & ran some ATF through it & it seems to be pretty healthy so far (only has about 32,000 miles, just been sitting a really long time) Then I took it for a spin with no brakes what so ever !!! That was fun, so when I got back we started working on the brakes & we did a minor rebuild on a master cylinder, but I thing the whole brake system needs replacing I also put the wheels off of my yellow 67 on it |
Re: Project... Rusty but Trusty
Also, checked the lights & the only thing that doesnt work are the low beams & the parking lights (the dipper switch is worn out, so that may be why the low beams dont work)
Bumper pics http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...8_04280003.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...8_04280001.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...8_04280002.jpg |
Re: Project... Rusty but Trusty
LMFAO!!!! I love the pics, esp the "oil" draining and the wrench with the mangeled filter!!! Been there, done that!
Looks like a beautiful starting point, body looks pretty straight other than the typical dents. Keep us posted with new pics. Nice to see another '67 short-step being saved. BTW, you should paint it orange! Don |
Re: Project... Rusty but Trusty

Re: Project... Rusty but Trusty

Re: Project... Rusty but Trusty
I know it's been said, but let me reitterate. That would look so sick slammed with some shiny wheels. Just like it is.

Re: Project... Rusty but Trusty
I was at a junk yard with a 67 gmc that had the radio delete cut out for a radio just like that. I found a red delete withought the clips at another yard and went back to get the clips at the first yard a week later. With my luck, the whole truck was gone, never got the clips I wanted. Sorry to ramble, sweet find.

Re: Project... Rusty but Trusty
Forgot to ask, how did you find the truck?

But I did get his phone number, so this Sunday I just called him up & bought it  Brent, I agree minus the shiny wheels Yeah, OG paint for me bro !!! :metal: |
Re: Project... Rusty but Trusty
Can we get a full on shot of the bumper...? I love that thing!

Re: Project... Rusty but Trusty
Like a close up of the whole bumper ???

Re: Project... Rusty but Trusty
Today I swapped the head of the door mirror for on that wasnt busted, drained the gas tank, & put a different seat in it
Just gotta get a sock filter for the tank & I can bolt the seat down |
Re: Project... Rusty but Trusty
you should start a club for people who've had to drag their project onto the trailer
hill+unkept road+3/4 ton chevy+dodge dakota towing = fun haha |
Re: Project... Rusty but Trusty

Re: Project... Rusty but Trusty

Ima just get this thing on the road, then I'll be back on Sano All thats really left to be done on this truck is brakes & a windshield |
Re: Project... Rusty but Trusty
I like the little stepper! Looks like it already is pretty cool looking and could fantastic if you put some work and $ in it! Nice find!
|
Re: Project... Rusty but Trusty
wait...
...you're gonna leave the engine alone?? YOU, of all people, leave something alone? ;) I know you just want to get it on the road, but do yourself a favor man. at the very least, put some headers on the 250. The sixer will love you for it. An intake would be nice too. Yup. It'd love you for that too. Of course, your wallet prolly wouldn't... Lookin' good though man, can't wait to see it hit the road. -Sam. |
