where to get caps and rings for rally wheels?
Anyone know a source to get the factory aluminum chevy center caps and some good trim rings. I have kept an eye out at junkyards without any luck. I never see any in good shape. I know I can find trim rings from several sources, but don't want to buy any cheap junk that pops off and bends all the time.
I had to pay premium for some caps for my GMC, and figured I would ask before I do that again. Thought somebody might know a good place to buy some. Thanks in advance. |

They pop up on eBay from time to time, I just bought one for $0.99. I went to Super Chevy a couple weeks ago hoping to buy a new repro set, the vendor didn't show up.

Re: where to get caps and rings for rally wheels?
I agree with S10Fan, watch eBay for a set. Occasionally, a NOS set of 4 caps will pop up, and being GMC, they don't sell as well. I have seen NOS sets of 4 listed for under a $100.00 (I think starting prices was $49.00 or so). It pays to be patient. I picked up 2 sets of NOS chevy caps (8 caps with screws) for about 60 each for each set. The key is being being patient. Trim rings are harder to find, but are on eBay also.

Re: where to get caps and rings for rally wheels?
I bought a set of GMC caps from a member here that were brand new in a box. I bought a set of the Chevy bowtie decals that go on the caps from another member. Might have even been the same member but different transaction? That way I could go either way.
Pays to be patient but keep your eyes open. But you might try LMC. They offer a repop set but they are made from plastic. Personaly I feel thats better anyways. No pitting and if they get in bad shape they were cheap enought to just replace them. I bought a set for my 4x4 and they still look good today, 4 or so years later. If they would have offered 2wd caps at the time I would have bought them instead of the OEM ones I mentioned above. If you are going for resto the OEM ones are the ticket. If you just want something that looks good I'd go with the LMC pieces. Also, when I bought mine, they didn't include the mounting screws or even offer them. I believe they now come with a complete set. And those are a $6.95 item at the dealer - x 12 = ~$84!!! Here is the LMC page. If that doesn't work it is page 100 of their online catalog. When I bought my 4x4 caps I thought they were ~$15 a pair, so $30 for a set of front and rear. Looks like they have went up a bit? Looks like they have the Aluminum ones too if that is your choice. |

Wheel Vintiques sells aftermarket center caps that are the same style if you can't find any used. I purchased my caps from PICKMUP here on the board. Good price & quality. Trim rings should be available @ your local hubcap place. I like the 88-98 trim rings which are still plentiful when you look for them.

Re: where to get caps and rings for rally wheels?
Kevin, you bring up a good point, the plastic ones won't pit and they are cheap enough that if they start to look like crap, then no big lose--I'll get some more or then I will hunt for oem. I found some on Ebay for $50 with the Bowtie instead of "special edition"--which is what Wheel vintiques carried, but said they don't anymore.
About trim rings: I think I am going to do 8" fronts and 10" rears. So I was wondering if there is a trim ring that will look the same but go deeper into the wheel for the rears. So have two different trim rings. Fronts(correct me if I am wrong) are 3" wide. So in the back maybe 4" wide. Has anyone done this succesfully? |

My 15x8's are either powder-coated or painted red. I was running what I believe are the stock 15x8 trim rings but they did cover too much of the rim. The truck my girlfriend had when we met had painted steelies with baby moons(?); her dad built it for her. The trim rings that were on there were mabe an inch wide and left rim exposed on the inside and the outside of the ring. It looked like just a chrome stripe around the outside of the rim. Those are the rings I want to get but they have been a back-burner priority. |
