i got POR on my rear
Now that I got your attention, no, this isn't like the old "how do you get POR off your hootis" thread from years ago...
I got the 12 bolt one step closer to being ready to slip under the burb. Nothing real exciting... but progress is progress. Between having family over, spending time with my son, (being forced to) help someone move, workin on a POS motorcycle, helpin the ex do this and that... plus the weather has been pretty crappy on days I have free... I haven't gotten JACK done lately. So hear goes Rear came with the burb, came out from under a 72 1/2 ton big block burb... SHOULD be a 3.07 gear, but I'll be confirming that. Already confirmed it is a one wheel wonder, but I'm cool with that, it's a cruiser, not a race car. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/data/500/e4.jpg Spent an hr with the steam cleaner blowing crap all over me, and soaking me to the bone, came out looking like this; http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/data/500/f4.jpg Those two were with the phone, which is now sporting a cracked camera lens... terrific. Get it home (and grab the actual camera), and back into the drive... you can see space is VERY limited here... everyone else's projacts in the way... to include someone's project of cutting the branches off the tree... I'm parked on top of that mess. The lack of a hoist makes these things interesting, but not impossible. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/data/500/a8.jpg Prop the yoke up on the truck so i can get the whole rear done easily http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/data/500/b4.jpg You can see the same jar of POR15 on the plastic box to the left... still going, but it is getting low... and when i opened it, i discovered a thin skin covering the top. I hope to use the rest of it up on the front suspention before opening another quart. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/data/500/c5.jpg I plan to remove the cover here this weekend maybe, so i can take it to work and sand blast it bafore POR'ing it. I don't want it to be all rough looking. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/data/500/d6.jpg After POR, I shot it with some clear coat I had laying around (yes, spray bomb)... left over from the rally wheel redo. The brake shoes look great, the springs and hdwr look awesome, so I'll probably just pull it all off, and POR the inside of the backing plate... gives the shoes a real smooth place to slide. I'll be sand blasting the finned drums too, and hitting them with gloss black engine paint. Hopefully they won't get hot enough to burn the paint, and the fresh blasted metal will keep it from rusting from under the paint. I've done it a few times before, and it's been 50/50 on longevity of the paint, so we'l see what happens. I did buy some straps and bolts for the rear U joint to yoke... so I spent 7.56 at NAPA... Otherwise, that's all i spent. one hr getting wet, and I think i have about 2 1/2 into the POR and paint... and that's about it. Slow progress is better than nothing at all. |

Re: i got POR on my rear
Nice rear end, Andy!
And it was Herculiner on the hootus, not POR... not that I would know anything about that. |
Re: i got POR on my rear
ahhhh, I thought it was POR... either way, that was funny... and a long time ago.
as for the dew bottle... you should see all the bottles and cans, and red bull cans under the tool box in the bed... it's getting unreal up in there. just pulled about 13 bottles out from under the seats this evening. |

Maybe that's the Reason You got the Flower's, You Have a Rear Admirer........ Sorry Andy, Just Could'nt Resist that Set Up Rick |
Re: i got POR on my rear
oh no!
Those flowers are haunting me! |
Re: i got POR on my rear
You may want to consider using BBQ paint on the drums. It can withstand the heat and won't flake off at all. I did it to my 67 and it worked great. It is slightly less shiny than the POR, but works awesome.

Re: i got POR on my rear
Hey progress is progress ...looks good to me.
It inspires me to go out and work on mine. |
Re: i got POR on my rear
POR......AH my wife knows how good that stuff is. I had bought it and used it once..sealed the lid on real good or so I thought. the next time I went to use it I figured i would shake it up real good, so there I am in my garage shaking the quart of POR when my wife calls me into the house....i go in the house with the paint and just keep on shakin! well the lid wasn't as tight as i thought and there was POR splattered from the garage through the laundry room and into the kitchen. I did what i could to get that stuff off, but there is still some on my kitchen table and cabinets......that stuff sticks!......looks great andy!

Re: i got POR on my rear
WTF is a hootis?? and here I thought I'd heard it all.......
|
Re: i got POR on my rear
shak, I won't be doing POR on the drum, just engine paint. I always used engine paint or header paint on BBQ's, the BBQ paint never seemed to do anything.
Paul, have you gotten much done on it since I saw it? Rick, You should never shake POR. It can (not always... but can) build pressire, which can FORCE the lid off and cover everything in the kitchen. We had a few let go at work before the shop retards would stirr only. As far as a hootis... it's a daddy part.... I'll give you 3 guesses. ;) |

Re: i got POR on my rear
That is my new word. Hootis. I'm just gonna start calling everything a hootis.
|
Re: i got POR on my rear
I think everyone should keep their Hootis to themselves. That is without POR-15 that is. LOL
|
Re: i got POR on my rear
Looks good! You're making faster progress than I am on my 67.... All I've done is drag another project home....
