Project 72' C10

Well, I have told a bunch of people about this truck so heres the project thread!

My brother, Trevors truck, picked it up for $700 and it had a lot of rear axle clunk when it rolled onto the trailer. It came with the bed, but we recently took it off. It came with the extra door and tailgate.

1972 Chevy C10 2WD 350 3-Speed Auto with 12 bolt rear

This truck is more rare than you may think. Halfway through 70', GM changed to 5-lug and halfway through 72' GM changed the rear coil-overs. We dont have any production numbers but we know they are very rare. We just so happen to have a 3/4 ton with 5-lug coil-overs.

Things that need to be fixed: Getting better bed due to rust holes. Needs new cab corners. Needs new interior. Needs paint. Needs the common things you see all the time.

Plans: Make it back to almost all stock truck. My brother wants stock orange peel paint on top blending into blue on the bottom. Different rims and a drop it the rear to make it sit level. Paint or powdercoat everything underneath. Redo all interior. Will update all the time.

The rear end is being rebuilt and there are no pics of the rear yet. We left the diff cover here, we are getting a chrome cover instead.

Other tailgate and drivers door. And the driveshaft is out.

Great place to start! Looks like you have your work cut out for you, but it sounds like you're getting everything in order.

Welcome to the board. It took my first subscription a while to begin, but it's worth it.

I was surprized when I picked my truck up and it had leaf springs. I didnt think that started until the 73s came out. Mine has a 1/72 build date.

throughout '67-72, 2wd Chevys came standard with coils, and 2wd GMCs came standard with leafs. However, thats not to say they couldn't be optioned with either or.

I have a GMC with coil springs, since it was optioned. and of course, 4wd doesn't apply, because they all came leaf sprung.

Good lookin' start nonetheless man.

Well, I've been busy painting and sanding and wire brushing. I got the brake drums, pumpkin cover, spare tire, tailgate, and extra door, sanded or wire brushed and painted. I'll try to get pics up but my USB cable is fried.

Looks like a great place to start. Good luck with it.

My only input into the whole coil vs. leaf idea, all I can say is that I have had 2 71 C20s and one was leaf, one is coil.

Oh yeah, we got the trim off and finally proved that the truck was orange. :D

We also looked closer at the huge fender dents. We'll need a new pass fender. :(

Well, this is MY truck now! My brother gave it to me since he moved to FL. I'll post up pics of what I have done to it since it has been mine. Funny, more was done to it in the first day I had it than the 2 years my brother had it. :haha:
