Bringing Home the Six Fo!
This is the truck I learned how to drive in at the age of 10. It was originally a PG&E truck (Cali). My Dad was the 2nd or 3rd owner. He owned it from the mid 70's till 1999 when he gave it to me. I took it down to San Jose from Sonoma and did a little spay-bomb resto on it and used it as my commuter, bombin the 101 daily till sometime in mid 2000. When I moved to Oregon and bought a house with a Home Owners Association I gave it to my brother in Boise with the agreement that it would stay in the family. Well, it has served him well and now I have a more "country" property with no HOA (thank God) and the need for a truck to use as a truck!
So next Tuesday I have a one-way ticket to Boise. I'll spend Wednesday making sure she's road worthy and head west early Thursday morning on the 457 mile journey home :D The gas will cost more than the airfare  This truck has all original sheetmetal (exception: ds bedside) with rust free rockers and floors. My plans are to use (not abuse) it around the property and eventually do a shortbed/big window conversion on it. It needs to lose a little altitude and get its OG wheels back too. ...and lose those mirrors; what was I thinking? Knowing myself that will probably happen sooner than later. ;) Here's what it looked like around 2000/2001: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1212678345 http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1212678441 http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1212678484 http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1212678531 http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1212678575 http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1212678688 http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1212678744 |

Re: Bringing Home the Six Fo!
61 on the C5
69 Tahoe 69 GMC 3/4 ton (parting soon) 64 coming next week :) So in all reality I'll have one long-term/all-out project (61), one snowballing project/driver (tahoe), and a work/weekend-mini-projects truck (64). The 327 in the GMC might just find it's way into the 64 too... |
Re: Bringing Home the Six Fo!
That's a really nice looking truck. But please don't convert it to a shortbed.

Hey, hey....easy on the long-bed hate'n !!! What's wrong with being able to carry sheets of plywood ??:lol::lol: |
Re: Bringing Home the Six Fo!
if you can keep the lead out of your foot you might get 20 MPG Freeway with that thing. Forget the shortbed. If you are going to use it as a truck you will not like a short bed. This is why I will be looking for a long bed when I am ready for a work truck..

Re: Bringing Home the Six Fo!
That's a real clean looking '64 That's really cool that you've managed to keep it in the family this long and are continuing on. That's my intent with the vehicles I own...keep'em in the family.

and I was just kidding ;) someday i would like to have a long and low one like the chief :metal: |
Re: Bringing Home the Six Fo!
I'm definitely excited about it. I know I'm going to enjoy having it back. I don't mind your opinions about shortening it and long v. short ...you guys know my opinion (though I wouldn't say anything bad about longbeds). I just like the look of shortbeds, and as for utility, I've owned both and it really doesn't make that much of a difference for my use (dumps, home dept, ect).

Re: Bringing Home the Six Fo!
I just looked at your route. Holy crap your right next to Heindsight MX. Thats like 15 minutes from my house. What are the chances of that? I live 7 miles past banks on HWY 6. Good luck on your trip.

Re: Bringing Home the Six Fo!
Seems like we are all going after our other trucks now that its gotten nice outside. Last week I brought my 69 Step home from my brothers in Indiana.
