Highlander Edition

I need some help. I recently found out that my 72 was the Highlander Edition. Can someone enlighten me as to what that is? I know it was some limited package only offered in 72 but can anyone give specifics? Thanks

Page 145 of "The Standard Catalog of Chevrolet Trucks" shows a picture of a Highlander seat. It is an interior trim package. Picture shows what could be a white vinyl seat with plaid cloth in the seating areas. Door panels matched the vinyl on the seat.

They were based on the CustomDeluxe. But,added a few things in 3 different levels. It was the first shot at what they do now with grouping options at a discount price.Only, with the Highlander you got a unique seat covering (plaid) and items not offered on a CustomDeluxe, like woodgrain lower belt mouldings only offered on Cheyenes and Supers.

Here's the Highlander equipment list (3 levels) that was posted on an older Highlander thread.

Since I wasn't paying attention in '72, that's a nice post to update us "old" folks on the option package. Thanks.

Exactly!I bought my first truck in`73 from an OK Used Car lot.It was a `72 shortbed Fleetside in solid ochre. It must have been an "A" package.Because it was a 3spd w/o A/C.It did have a 402,posi,and a tach though!I just remember it had upper mouldings and a grey plaid seat.Musta had a Highlander.

Group "C" is kinda funny,A/C "and" Soft Ray glass.Although Soft Ray glass was an option,it came automatically with A/C on all vehicles.

Re: Highlander Edition

I question mine. It is a Custom 10 deluxe longbed with woodgrain on the bottom, non tilt wheel, no air. It is the light metallic green tu tone with white. The interior has the white door panels and white seat belts. The dash pad, steering wheel and column are black and had black carpeting. My dad purchased the truck in 74 with 12,000 miles on it. It had the highlander seat in it. The glove box door does not say anything about the highlander package. It seams to go against what the brochure says.

Can anyone tell me if these are the original '72 Chevy Highlander wheel covers? Mine is a green '72 longbed C-10 with PS, PB and a 4-speed. No AC or tilt. It was sold originally in Denver, CO. Thanks. Brian

Re: Highlander Edition

You will have to forgive me, I can't remember the option number I think it is YG8. Mine says "special Promotion" on the SPID label, and it is a fully loaded Highlander. It was Copper with the black & white plaid seat, black carpet & dash pad, and parchment door panels. Has Tilt wheel, A/C, A/T, P/S.

Aren't the highlander wheel covers the same as the Monte Carlo covers of the same era?

yes, you are correct.

Re: Highlander Edition

The SPID would say SPEC PROMOTION PKG A B or C. The corresponding option number would be YG6 YG7 or YG8.

Custom delux didn't even come with lower trim, but if it was optioned without the cheyenne, cheyenne super, or highlander, then no, it had black inserts on the lower trim.

Series 10 only used the full wheelcovers, Series 20 and 30 used the small chrome hubcaps.

Yeah, that's right, I'm digging up a 3-year-old thread. Does anyone happen to have a picture of the 3/4 ton highlander chrome hubcaps? Are they just the dogdish ones?
