Trip to a local junkyard
 

I was off today so I went to a local junkyard. I took my c10. It was over 100 degrees out and I find out that freeway, heat and 4.10 gears dont mix. I had to turn around and get mine 4runner. My truck was running a little hot on the freeway 250 degrees at 3500 rpm. Anyway here are some pics. I saw a nice 68? with no rust. Drivetrain and everything were intact. Next one I saw was a 69-70? That one was rusted. I saw couple holes in the floorboard so I think they retired it. I also took some over all pics of the yard and pics driving back. They are having half off sale tomorrow. Can someone tell me if that sliding window is factory? I might go back and get it. They want $17 for it. I also bought a nice driver outside door handle for $5. Enjoy the pics.

man you guys got some nice junkyards! around here we gotta walk thru mud and muck :lol: and the cars are sittin on the ground or on tires :uhmk:

I have a factory slider in my '72 GMC, option # A28.

Pont406 Where is that junkyard located ? I am visiting Orange County for awhile and would like to go check out that place. I feel for your 100 degree drive I drove from Central Cali to OC two weeks ago during the heat wave with my 5 yr old son. It was 102 I believe no A/C vinyl seat and alot of water and Gatorade and 5 hrs later we made it there. but she drove like a champ !!!

20 years back, I used to always go the one in Sun Valley. There were a lot of yards along San Fernando Ave. there. I lived in Sherman Oaks in the valley. Then moved back east. Sure miss those yards.....nothing but rust free gold......

That suburban is a 67 and if you go back there, you should get the ignition bezel and the spacer behind the dash as that is a one year item and very hard to find!!!

You cali guys are spoiled BIG TIME.

That's how my local junkyard is too. If I was in control of the junkyard I would get all the cars and trucks organized so that the same make and models are together. The ground needs to be leveled out at the junkyard too, kinda hard trying to get something off a vehicle that's sitting on a steep, muddy hill.

Both kinds of yards have there advantages.
Generally, the ones that are semi-organized, or not at all organized, that you have to roll in the mud, or thorny bushes, tend to hold onto there vehicles longer, and if something is in the brush, it oesn't get stripped as quick, which mean, there's still stuff on it when you need it.
Generally cheaper too.
Personally, I hate having to pay to just go in and look around. Generally, the nice neat ones are more expensive, and you have to pay to window shop.

We had a lot more junkyards around here. Because of tree hugers very few left. Here in Los Angeles they have to drain all oils, antifreeze, freon, gas and so on... It's not worse it anymore. Pick a parts they make most of the money recycling metal. Epa and tree hugers sux.

Well I am going to visit the Stanton and Anaheim yards tomorrow, The Sun Valley yard will wait until I am going back to the Central Valley as it will be on the way home. I hope I score some goodies

Come on man! That's part of the fun! At our local junkyard, you have to be on the lookout for snakes and lord knows what else! You never know what or who will be lurking out in the yard!

man, that burb looks to be in really good shape. you'd never find something that rust free in a yard around here.

well I went to the Anaheim yard and found no 67-72 trucks. Then I go to the Stanton yard and the parking was full. I was told to park across the street but I was going to pay another $2 to waste time again. I guess I will be visiting Sun Valley soon. At least I saw the pics of these trucks for sure. They wont tell you over the phone if they have one or not. 40 miles of good ol L.A. traffic to Sun Valley is where I gota go:b69:
