steering shaft
 

Hi, I am trying to instal a 1970 van column into my 1963 chev truck. I was trying to figure out how to lengthen the shaft to the late 70 style power steering box. I do not want to weld it, but i don't know if there are any other choices.:flag:

I'm not really sure i understand your question. Also is there a reason you want the '70 steering column? What are you trying to accomplish? If power steering is the goal, just shorten the stock shaft and hook it to the power steering box.

I also changed the truck to an automatic. I need the auto column. That was why i was changing the column.

David is this a tilt steering if so i put one in my 63 by separating it where it joins together at the bottom and it bolted right up to the gearbox,this was a van tilt

You need the intermediate shaft and a rag joint from a 69-72 truck to put a van column in a 64-66 truck. The truck intermediate shaft can be heated until the sealer stuff squirts out and then can be adjusted to the length you need.
